re: From SEA to NSWThe Translator ;) Last night I went to see the Music of James Bond in Petronas Philharmonic Hall. We were’nt allowed to take photos so this one is downloaded from the internet. ……Before I left I had to have something to eat. I found some foodstalls, which I miss from being in Thailand! I had some really good sweet and sour chicken. Whilst I was eating I noticed a few mice running down from the loft and ended up sitting on the cooker where my food had just been cooked. That would never happen in Denmark! But I carried on eating and hoped that I didnt get ill. I’ve been ok so far so fingers crossed………….. I ended up having very little time to get ready, but arrived just in time and got seated. I felt quite underdressed compared to some of the others, but I didn’t exactly have my best clothes with me. It was a fantastic experience. Right from the start and more or less all the way through the evening I had goosebumps. And it wasn’t because of the air-con! Apart from the Malaysian orchestra Debbie Gravitte was performing. It wasnt just one number after another though – they really understood how to entertain! The conductor told us about the different pieces of music now and again, which he made quite amusing, and Debbie Gravitte did the same. It was an amazing and relaxed atmosphere so we could just sit back and enjoy the show……….. They had a scene with someone playing mobilephones. It was a piece of music where he played solo on his telephones. Every telephone had a certain ringtone depending on which telephone was calling. I couldn’t wait to hear this. When he “played” it was the classic ringtones that we all know and love. The guy made it look as if it was really difficult and stressful, so during the scene, he had a shoulder massage from one of the orchestra, and was served water and a towel to “dab the sweat off his brow”. Really entertaining…… The whole evening was fantastic and the piece where they had put music together from action-scenes from 2 films was excelleng. If you ever find yourselves in KL then I really recommend the 'Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra!.
re: Smuk musik og god underholdningThe translator ;) Luxury in KL.. Time is passing really quickly. I have already been here 3 nights, even though I originally only planned to stay 2. And it will actually end with 4 nights because I ended up buying a ticket to Music of James Bond in Petronas Philharmonic Hall that are playing tonight. It meant I had to move hostels today as the other hostel was fully booked for tonight, so I have now been at 3 different hostels here in KL. It sounds a lot, but I left the first hostel within an hour of arriving. Arrival in China Town……… When I arrived on Wednesday I started out in China Town. I found a hostel that, according to Lonely Planet, should be ok. I knew it was cheap – 12 RM which is about 20 DKK but it turned out not to be a place for me. After I had paid for the night, I went up to the dorm. I felt really out of place somehow, and when I discovered that the lockers that we use to store our valuables was 2 floors down, and that there had been problems with theft there I was out of the door before you could say Jack Robinson. The poor man in reception looked totally confused. I apologized for my strange behavior but I could feel anxiety taking over for some strange reason and I just had to get out of there! I think it was a mixture of being in the middle of China Town and a little homesickness. So I took off to one of the more expensive hostels where I could relax and feel a little closer to home. Up to that point, I hadn’t had any problems with experiencing such different cultures but after 3 weeks it just got a little too much. I can’t really describe it any other way. The rest of the evening was spent relaxing at the hostel…………… The Golden Triangle……………..On Thursday I decided to go to Petronas Twin Towers so I could buy a book in the shopping centre, seeing as the book I had brought with me was read and given away a while back. The trip there was interesting. It took about 15-20 mins, which for me is nothing, but I get the impression that others would look at me as if I was odd, seeing as the public transport is quite good, and yes, walking doesn’t seem to be part of the KL lifestyle. I walked past some really old houses; I can’t say if they were still inhabited, but I thought they had really nice architecture. Actually there was a photographer taking photos of 2 models in Muslim costumes with these houses in the background! After this, the town changed into a jungle of high-rise buildings. What a sight! I stopped at a really nice café, Brussels Beer Café, where I ate the most expensive meal I have had yet in Asia. It was actually around 40DKK including service charge! I had steak and carrots and all the soup and salad I could eat, washed down with Ice Tea. It was delicious, and the atmosphere was great. I could have kept on taking more soup and salad, but I felt it was getting a little embarrassing hehe…………….. I continued towards Petronas Towers, which wasn’t far from there. It was incredible, I was really fascinated, but it was quite late in the day, and there are only a certain number of tickets available to visit the towers (first come first serve) so it wasn’t possible for me to go up. But it didn’t matter so much. Instead I went into the shopping centre that is right between the Towers. It was like being a small child on Christmas morning again, but as my journey has only just begun, it wasn’t really the best idea to shop all my money away right now. But I did a lot of window shopping, and enjoyed a cupcake and hot chocolate, before going to the pictures to see "We're the Millers". It cost me just under 40DKK incl. popcorn and cola…….. I had a lovely afternoon, and before I left, I bought a ticket to the Music of James Bond i Petronas Philharmonic Hall. So exciting!!! I’m really glad I have a dress, because otherwise my backpacker wardrobe would not have matched their dresscode. It had been a great day, and I had some Mc D, shame on me, before I left. Actually I had forgotten all about the book I was going to buy, but I remembered just as I got outside the centre. It was the biggest centre I have ever seen! Incredibly big. I ended up buying two books: "The Silk Harmony Factory"and "Revenge wears Prada". And then it was back to the hostel…………………Another walk!.......... Yesterday I wanted to see more of KL without spending too much money. I decided to go to the bird park, the national mosque and a large green area. First I was at a market in China Town, and after that I walked past Masjid Jamek Moskeen during Friday prayer. I was really lucky because it was quite exciting to “take part” even though I was watching from a distance. …………….And then I got lost, but quickly found my way again where I ended up at Kuala Lumpur City Gallery and Merdeka Square. Kuala Lumpur City Gallery, was disappointing – the gift shop was bigger than the display, but it was free I suppose. Then I went past the national mosque which was really beautiful. And apart from that I just walked round. I got a photo of KL Tower/Menara Tower and Petronas Twin Towers together! In the afternoon it was raining a little but it didn’t matter so much. Before I went back to the hostel, I stopped to get something to eat. Here I met two girls who invited me to their table, which was really sweet of them. After that I went back to the hostel and didn’t do anything much for the rest of the day. I was also quite tired after walking round KL for 2 days. Today I haven’t done anything apart from switch hostels and its all happening tonight. Now I need to find something to eat as I am quite hungry!
