Monday 21 December
I wake up and I know I haven't escaped all of Malcolm's cold. Oh dear. It's 7 years today since we got married. Where has the time gone!
We slowly get up and moving. We decide to take advantage of the hot showers. Malcolm goes to buy some food and get money out for the trip. I'm pretty much sorted by the time he returns. We eat some of his bakery finds then head out to the bus stop. We spot more puppies, different from yesterday. What kind of future will they have?
There are two buses waiting with a man yelling advertising. We get on one and get seats. It's slow leaving and stops frequently. Eventually we get there and have to switch to another bus. It looks pretty full. We have to get on the roof. Should be exciting. We sit With our legs over the sides. It's a long way and it's difficult to stay comfortable. Lots of stops and starts. The road is pretty much a single lane, with bits broken or washed away in places. The horns are used as warnings for ppl coming the other way around the corners. We pass a school in action and it gets prettier as we climb. Some of the corners are a bit scary and it's 'hang on & lean back'. We get to nagarkot and walk the rest of the way to our accommodation. It's pretty cold. The thermometer say 4°c inside. You can see vapour with every breath. We get settled in and eventually get so cold we go for a walk up the hill to warm up. It works and we see the moon. The haze pretty much stops any long distance viewing. We order dinner and go back to our room to await it's preparation. An hour later we enjoy nann, momo's, dal and rice. It's pretty small portions but mostly fills us and gives us ordering ideas for the future. We watch a lovely movie about an elephant. We figure out the misty shower and try to warm up. Then a hot drink. The heater is all but useless in this freeze box and it's like a spot light is so bright. Let's hope we survive the night.
