Hey so here we are in the lovley melbourne. After our 12 hour coach journey we crashed out at our 'lovley' hostel before going off and exploring what will be our new home for the next three months a bit scary eh? Unfortunatly we had an accident with the camera (well Heiki did) and accidently deleted all the pictures from new year and the days afterwards, but hey are all on disc flying home to freezing england so if we ask nicely someone will uplaod them for us.
First impressons of Melbourne are excellent its a gorgous city with a very european feel, and its a scorcher its been in the 40's the past few days and been just too hot to do anything especially when there is no aircon in the hostel!
Its been great having Tammy and jamie with us weve had a ball lots of drunken nights and lazy days in the park and on the beach. weve been to Fitzroy , federation square and south bank where all the trendy bars are on the river.
So its back to reality now and we are on the hunt for a job and an apartment for the next 3 months, we just cant stay in our hostel its appauling! the rooms arnt so bad its the kitchen put it this way im glad weve been vaccinated! tomorrow is beach day which i love but heiki isnt so keen he just cant sit still! hes so brown yet he sits in the shade all day! so its turbo tan tomorrow. be back soon stay warm!
Hey we are back, well it been a few weeks since the last blog so we have alot to tell you, firstly the job hunting didnt go too well we went for a few interviews at marketing companys and we both got offerd jobs bu tthe pay was rubbish and it was selling electricity door to door definatly not us, basicly if you didnt sell anything you didnt get paid. So we decided in the end up to do all our sightseeing that we wanted to do in melbourne then move on to adelaide. This unfortunatly meant that we had to stay in our horrible hostel for another couple of weeks as everywhere is booked up due to the austalian open.
We have watched so much tennis it has been alot of fun we both have got really into it, its a shame we didnt have tickets really but never mind the atmosphere in the city has been great and we have wathed it all on the big screen in federation square.
On friday we went up the melbourne observation tower which was good it was alittle cloudy but that didnt matter too much as we got to go back up at night to see it in the dark, we could see the austalian open from up there but the people were really tiny.
Monday we went to phillip island which has been something i wanted to do in melbourne, firstly we stopped at a farm where we had afternoon tea! vey posh! then wenton to look at the kangaroos and wombats i was finally brave enough to feed a kangaroo i always think they look a little evil. We then went on to the Koala sanctury it was nice to see them a bit more in the wild but all they do is sleep as you can see from the pictures heiki found the stick more entertaining.
Then off to my favourite part phillip island the coastal drive was gorgous and very windy, we had a stop in cowes where they have an isle of white hotel, then carried on along the coast until we got to the penguin parade, as you driving along you can see the tiny burrows where they all go to sleep. we sat down at around 8:00pm then at around 9:15 when it was dark enogh the penguines slowley syarted emerging from the sea they were so cut, unfortunatley you are not allowed to take pictures as the flash can stun them and even kill them so we took a picture of some stuffed ones instead, bur to give you an i dea they are only 30cm tall and the walk so far to get home. They come out of the sea in groups but when one decides they dont want to come out they all go sliding back in they are so adorable, you can then go and walk on the boardwalk and watch them waddling into there nests to see there babies, we saw hundreds. they do this every single night!
On wednesday i dragged heiki along to the open air cinema to watch grease it was a fantatic night, really warm in beutiful surroundings and all the girls were singing along it was like being at a live show everyone was clapping and cheering after every song, i even saw heikis toe tapping.
We have booked our campervan to drive to adelaide and we set off on the 2nd of feb, typical heiki has managed to get some work labouring, but it has paid for the van which is great.
The 26th of Jan was australia day, we set off to fed square in the morning there was ll sorts of things going on and there was a big fair in the park with shows etc, they really go all out for it, later in the afternoon we went to a beer tasting at one of the bars it was 5 dollors to taste 17 beers so as you can imagine we were a little tipsy once we left, we tried allsorts most of them were a bit gross but for a fiver who cares ha ha, i hope that picture of heiki pullinga face is in regards to the beer and not me his finger is suspiciously pointing at me! we then went on to watch a show in fed square and the fireworks, they wernt as good as new year but i dont think any will beat that.
