The Vietnamese was delicious and after we took a walk to a gelato place which was yum!! G's boyfriend is very posh and in his last year of Uni studying law, Ed and I were on our best behaviour!!
The next day we had a lay in and made our way into the city in the afternoon for a little shop I had to secretly distract Ed and persuade him for a haircut so we could grab him a cake, card and something small to open. I ended up getting him a book to note down all the beers he tries overseas with a rating and review section so he can recommend to others. I also got him his favourite, a blueberry muffin and a message on the top which we popped candals in and sang to him!!
We left G up the city and walked back which took an hour and a half which was lovely through the cities royal botanic gardens. We also visited the shrine of remembrance which looked lovely covered in poppies for Remembrance Day. We let ourselves in to the flat and minutes later G arrived back. It was wet and cold on Friday so we made a coffee and watched a famous comedy series called summer heights high, ozzy humour is definitely different to us Brits.
We got ready and headed to Lygon street where we met a few of Gigi's friends at a delicious Italian called D.O.C. It was amazing we tried truffle in our pasta and shared meat and cheeses it was a feast. I met Gigi's brothers girlfriend which is apparently my doppelgänger!! We are very similar in looks I must admit. The evening was fun as we tucked into wine and good food. Most restaurants allow you to bring your own alcohol, which we found amazing. After we headed to Brunettis which is a typical Italian cafe which sells amazing cakes and gelato. We enjoyed various flavours of gelato yum yum before heading home, tomorrow's a big day.
We awoke very early and Ed Skyped home whilst I started to get ready. We then headed to Gigi's friends where I continued to get ready and Ed helped G take all the catered food, alcohol, chairs and tables to our car park spot at the races. They came back to finish changing etc and we headed to the big event - The Melbourne Cup Carnival. We set up our area which was in the members zone, it was fabulous. Others had put so much effort in and even employed people to serve them canapés and drinks throughout the day. It was very windy and us girls were extremely cold, however sipping on champagne all day helped us warm up. We had delicious catered food and unlimited champagne and great company her friends were very inviting and inclusive. Throughout the day we placed a few bets and were lucky enough to win a few. We got access into all areas and went to where we could view the whole track which was beautiful. At 7 we headed to G's friends where we chilled out drinking into the early hours tucking into sausages from the barbie (snags) and bread!! Was our first BBQ experience. We were lucky enough to get a lift home from Gigi's boyfriend and were very ready for bed our feet were so sore!!
We knew we would feel worse for wear so we headed to a famous cafe which we had to queue to get in- the hardware society down hardware lane. I had baked eggs with chorizo and bread yummy and Ed had scrambled egg, asparagus, smoked salmon and bread. Definitely what we needed!! Stuart Gigi's boyfriend and Julia a friend of G's joined us. After we said bye to Stuart and the four of us went and packed to head to Portsea on the coast for a few days. It was national 7/11 day so most things were $1 in a 7/11 convenience store so we tried some Ozzy chocolate which didn't taste right!!
When we arrived at Portsea we settled in and headed to the point to see the sea and beach before enjoying a cider in the beer garden at a local pub. After we headed back and prepared dinner which was a yummy BBQ with salad and mash potato yum!! Ed showed the ozzies how to make pimms as they seem to make it with ginger beer which tastes so weird. We've all been to India so thought we would watch slum dog millionaire again and headed to bed.
We had a nice lay in and Ed and I decided to go for a light jog/power walk for half hour which was nice and once we returned the girls awoke and we all had breakfast together! We have agreed on a very lazy few days so watched some telly wrapped up on the sofa. The house here is amazing!! Gigi's family built it around 7 years ago, every house has either a pool, tennis court or a hot tub. Or all the above!!
We plan to go for a walk around the local national park and hold a minutes silence when it's 11:11am back home for the fallen :)!!
