Once we arrived in this over populated city we had lunch which was my favourite so far!! Peas, cauliflower and mushroom curry yum. We then got our stuff sorted and went for an orientation around the city which was so busy cars and bikes were so close to hitting the group. We then attended a flower ceremony where the Hindus were praying which was enlightening. Smells were gorgeous insert sticks and candles and flowers!!
After we headed to dinner which was lovely. There isn't enough power to continuously keep electric on so we keep having mini black outs which is strange but something we have got used to.
We were so excited to shower and rest tonight and we got wifi to call Eds home which was lovely.
We awoke at 4:30am again this morning and made our way back through the tight bustling streets and alley ways. God knows how they don't get lost!! We hopped on a boat and watched the sunrise whilst riding along the sacred river. It was so dirty yet locals were washing, drinking and bathing in it. Was so peaceful all you could hear we're those praying and all you could see were flocks of people enjoying the water, oh and the fires where bodies were being cremated which can be up to 300 a day. This was a little sad but one thing I have learnt is to take everything like a pinch of salt and respect their beliefs. Because of monsoon season the water levels are ridiculously high with buildings still under water which was baffling.
Today we are visiting the markets which are most famous for its textiles which is exciting. We are heading back to bed as we need rest and then going to explore Varanasi with GiGi and Andrew before going for dinner on the roof of our restaurant later with a bottle of dark rum. We are up early tomorrow to travel to Nepal so have started our malaria tablets.
I'm sad our visit to India is almost over but we all feel exhausted by the constant bustling of crowds, loud noises and strong smells and cannot wait for some fresh air away from this city life, Nepal holds some exciting ventures for us.
