We started the day with more cake. Anna played safe with the same two types as yesterday whereas I went for peach and sesame seed cake and a pineapple and coconut tart, both yummy. We sat under a tree by the river and ate them while watching a monitor lizard and large brown fish in the water. We found a bit of the market we'd not seen previously and went to a stall selling batik stuff. We bought a blank peacock and coloured it in, it was relaxing and nice. Afterwards we thoroughly went round the market before buying tom yum soup for lunch at the food court. This was the worst meal we've had in Malaysia (it was extremely spicy) but the standard had been incredibly high and it wasn't all that bad.
Walking towards the main square we found the national textile museum which was free to enter and air conditioned so we went in. It was reasonably interesting and I learnt that the fruit I had the previous night and didn't know what it was, was actually a rambutan. The skin of it is used for making dyes. Across the road we found another museum about KL. It was only small but, again, free entry persuaded us to have a look. It had a fancy, light up model of the city and some old maps but was pretty uninspiring. In the main square they were rehearsing music and dancing for an event that we have not been able to ascertain what it is. We did find out it is happening tomorrow so we won't see it anyway.
We had another tea of satay from the same stall. This time we went at a steadier pace and it was just as yummy. We then sat on the terrace of the hotel and had a rather expensive bottle of beer each. It was enjoyable to just watch the world go by. Petaling Street is so busy, sitting at the side watching it all happen was very pleasant. We came back slightly earlier to sort our bags for the coach back to Singapore tomorrow. We're both looking forward to being able to sit down for a while.
