Hi Everyone,
I'm sorry it's been a long time since I've written but it's a lot harder than you think to get to an internet cafe in the middle of Australia!!
So, the big red rock, Uluru, Ayers Rock...it deserves it's repuation!! The minute it came into view from the bus it took my breath away! The sunrise shining on the rock highlighting the stark difference to the surrounding horizon was a beautiful thing to experience. Walking around it I could see the ghosts of the true owners and their stories left behind for future generations. The sunset was just as beautiful, though I think made better with the cup of tea in my hand (it was freezing!!) The desert is a tough mistress!! The next part of the rock tour was the Valley of the winds at Kata Tjuta and they were just as beautiful as the main event. Walking through the canyon of the rivers of years gone by and the wind rushing past had something really invigorating to it. If you ever want to go somewhere to really let your brain go, this is the place. The stars from the base camp that night were the most beautiful I have ever seen, no need to look up to see the stars, they were literally all around me and brighter than I ever would have imagined them to be. I'm sorry but my camera would never be able to do it justice, I tried!!
The next day we did a trek up to the top of King's Canyon and attempted to beat the sun...we did a pretty good job and listened to the birds waking and watching eagles swoop for their breakfast. The rest of the tour included a bit of Bush tucker...but sadly we couldn't find any witchedy grubs....! and also a little of the dream time talk. Aboriginal peoples in the past would use song and story to teach the younger generations about life and these rocks were a hige part of that. The rocks were schools, houses and places of celebration, it was cool to find out all that history to really get the feel for the area.
This could actually be the best thing I have done so far guys, it was just out of this world. I know it's a rock and everything but it's like the iceberg, there is so much underneath it! (wow there's a bit of corn for you!) Next adventure....ROAD TRIP!!!!!!
