Crossed into Zambia after much confusion over a lost visa waiver but sorted out in the end! Arrived at the Waterfront camp site in Livingstone, then was all a bit of a rush! Straight off to the Vic falls which were stunning, noisy and wet - all good! Complete circular rainbow the highlight! Then back to the campsite for a "Sunset cruise" (not a booze cruise)! Very entertaining night!Whitewater rafting the next day on the Zambezi, to rid us of hangovers, which was another thrilling experience. Managed to loose half of the people in the raft within 30 seconds, both of us included! 5 attempts later we finally managed to get past rapid 1. The guide was beginning to understand what kind of day he was going to have! Did 10 rapids in the morning and then did "river boarding" in the afternoon - basically floating down the rapids on boogie boards! Bit hairy to start but better once I managed to keep hold of the board! We had a lazy day by the pool to recover from the exertions of the previous day and the few days on the truck up to Livingstone.More adrenalin with a full day of abseiling, zip slide and gorge swinging! Started the day with an abseil which was a relatively easy except for the walk back out the gorge at the end! We then did a zip slide across the gorge followed by some rap jumping which is a forward facing abseil (see videos!) Next was the big one. A gorge swing is basically a big swing suspended from the middle of the gorge. You stand on one side attached to the swing via a harness and then just jump off! The freefall is about 55m and then as the rope catches you you swing across the gorge. That's the plan anyway! The more freefall I do the more I dislike it - thought it would get easier but now know what to expect! Unfortunately the gorge swing hurt Alex's back so we couldn't do the tandem together. I completed the day with a gorge swing backwards and also a tandem with one of the other people. After 5 times of walking out the gorge I had had enough!
It was now time to leave Livingstone and also say goodbye to 14 of our original group and hello to 12 new people. Sad to see some new friends go but hope the new group is as much fun.
