We arrived in Melbourne in the early morning so after appetites were satisfied we took a walk around the town and found ourselves down by the river. We could see the MCG and the Rod Laver Arena so decided to check them out! We had decided to buy a ground ticket for the tennis allowing us into the outer courts but not the show courts. On our way to the sales desk we were accosted by a Kiwi asking if we wanted ticket to see Maria Sharapova's semi final. He was offering his $180 tickets for $100 so we were persuaded! Whilst all this was going on one of the marshals came and asked what we were doing and hoped no tickets were being touted! We of course said no and agreed to pay Leon inside away from their watchful eyes! It all worked out in the end and we enjoyed the experience of professional tennis - the first time for me. We also watched a men's doubles match which was also good to watch. Sharapova made little of beating Jelena Jankovic but was a good atmosphere and Sharapova's tennis was good!
After all the tennis we went to pick up our 2nd Wicked camper leaving ourselves 3 hours to get to the depot and back for our Neighbours Tour! We thought that it would be plenty but what with the distance to the depot, the chaos we found there and the rush hour traffic back it was all a bit rushed!
We made it and negotiated a 10% discount and van upgrade so all worked out in the end!
Alex met Stu (whoever he is!) from Neighbours and we then ventured out in a tour of Ramsey Street, Erinsborough High and the outside sets at the Studio.
Back to town for a quick dinner which we ate in Federation Square watching Tsonga beat Nadal on a massive screen. Despite being an open air walk up venue the atmosphere was tremendous with pretty much a stranding ovation when Tsonga won.
We then headed out of Melbourne towards the Great Ocean Road and pulled up on a back round for some well earned rest after an overnight flight followed by a very full day!
