In the interests of keeping the Kiwi spirit alive over this side of the world, I headed to Edinburgh, Scotland to watch the All Blacks vs Scotland at Murrayfeild Stadium. Thanks to the one and only Jess 'Fastest Drinker Alive' (whose title is now up for contention) Ley, who hooked us up with some amazing season holder tickets right on the half way line (and sitting 2 rows below the commentary box, and substitute No. 10 Aaron Cruden).
It was an extremely early start of 3.30 am to make it to our flight to Scotland, from the furthest away airport that we could of possibly chose in London, Luton Airport. With a hearty man's breakfast of Burger King we set off, got to Edinburgh nice and early to hear the birds starting to chirp.
The Somerset crew were joining us on this momentous occasion, consisting of the 2 pommy's - Caz, who is pretty much a Kiwi anyway, just have to work on her accent aye bro, & Dominic Malcolm Roy Westcott who even bought an AB's top (good lad). Also I would like to mention leading the pack in the drunkest man alive stakes, Grunta my brutha from anotha motha from Te Anau. Had a good night out in the underground hostel bar, then venturing into Edinburgh - even rode on some segway bikes.. although some of us have somewhat hazy memories and cannot quite remember this.
The next morning we were lucky enough to be staying right around the corner from the All Black's hotel, and watched them all get on the rugby bus. I found it highly amusing to watch grown men act like little kids on Christmas morning, so happy to see their sporting hero's and shouting out things to their idols, including one particular excited man to Aaron Mauger "I love you Aaron, I f***ing love you.. I want to be on you!". After alot of trouble actually getting to the game we arrived about half a second before the kick off, so regrettably missed the national anthems & haka, but made up for it with the amazing atmosphere with the Scots in full noise supporting there national team, and alot of booing focused towards the Allblacks. This resulted in the announcer telling the crowd at half time to respect both teams and to refrain from booing. Which of course made them boo us even more, was awesome to see the mighty AB's in action in such a great location.
The Monday after the game, Jess and I put all the other tourists in existence to shame, going on 3 different bus tours around Edinburgh - I am now an Edinburgh history extraordinaire. Went and experienced Edinburgh Castle in all her glory, and to finish off the day went to a 3D/illusion/magic house similar to Puzzle World in Wanaka. Was a quick flight back to Londontown as I slept like a baby again till the wheels hit the tarmac. Unforunately I did not manage to tame any ginger Scotsman, maybe next time.
Looking forward to my next wee trip to Somerset for Christmas then partying into the new year in Berlin. To all my undying fans out there (probably just my Mum) have an awesome Christmas and NY's! take care, be safe and don't do anything I wouldn't do. xx
