So we headed to Zanzibar today, had to get a 5 min ferry in Dar, followed by a local 'Dalla-Dalla' (which luckily we got on private hire so were not packed in with locals and all our bags) and finally a 2hr fast ferry over to Zanzibar.
We arrived in the afternoon and once we dropped our bags off (thankfully we got a free pick-up from the ferry or we would never have found the lodge) we went straight out on a Spice Tour. We got a tour of the old fort and stone town, followed by lunch at a local restaurant, a tour of the old slave market and holding cells and finally out to a spice plantation for a tour of the different spices. We got to smell and taste some of them. There was a coconut tree climber who was amazing, we got to have a go ourselves and got nowhere near as far up as he did! Got to taste lots of fresh fruit and they made us grass hats, baskets and necklace/tie which was cute.
In the evening we headed to the night market for our dinner, it was a great experience, it was a square full of vendors with tables selling all sorts of meat, fish, kebabs, pizza, fruit etc

We should have been on a tour to Prison Island today to see the giant tortoises but I could hardly walk with my sore foot so we decided I should rest. Totally gutted we missed it!! We spent most of the day relaxing in our air conditioned room. :) Went out for a late lunch/early dinner then spent the rest of the evening playing cards.

We met Erin at breakfast, she had been to India so nice to get some advice from her. Spent the day wandering around Stone Town, avoided the fish market as the smell made us bock! Highlight of my day was going to Freddie Mercury House. Couldn't get inside but got a picture outside and read all the bumph! Went for dinner and drinks with Erin in the evening, went back to the Night Market where we finally managed to get fresh seafood, can now leave Zanzibar a 'seafood lovers paradise' having a better impression than the smell of the Fish Market! Also tried the famous Zanzibari pizza, the only way to explain it is like an omelette cooked in a rolled up circle of dough, a bit like a calazone, but not!lol. We had a beef one which was very yummy!
