AFRICA ROUND-UP
So the first leg of our trip has come to an end! Sad but exciting at the same time. We have met some amazing people and had some exciting adventures.
Booking our trip was the best move we made, although we followed a backpackers route it still took us away from the tourist spots to experience the real Africa.
All our campsites were much nicer than we were expecting, it didn't take long to get used to putting our tent up and down, we seriously need to consider investing in one for our camping trips when we get home.
We all mucked in helping with food prep, truck cleaning and dishes. We wont forget doing the dishes in a hurry as we had to stand around 'flapping' our dishes dry for hygiene reasons (or for the amusement of the crew?!)
As we were covering quite a bit of ground we had a few long drives to contend with, sleeping helped them pass quickly. The driving in Africa is CRAZY (we have been warned India is worse!!) the roads are bumpy, there is lots of tooting and at busy junctions it is every man for himself, push your way forward until you get through (even if there are cars coming at you from all directions!) Trucks lying in the ditch became a common sight for us.
After a month of activities it is hard to decide our favourite but our top experiences include Kruger National Park, Great Zimbabwe Ruins, Walking with Lions, Rhino Trek, Victoria Falls, Ngorongoro Crater & Serengeti, Giraffe Sanctuary, Elephant Orphanage and for Cameron his Gorge Swing and for Amanda holding a real live snake!
All in all we loved Africa and would recommend it to anyone considering it or even not considering it!! The people are really nice and friendly (unless they are trying to sell you something, then they are a bit annoying!) Everyone speaks English which made things easier than we thought. At this time of year the climate is hot but bearable and the landscape is beautiful!
Now we look forward to our next adventure in India! :)
