Alyson, Emily, Julie & Katie's Adventures
Aly and Em: We left Bangkok on the night bus heading towards Ko Phangan. Thought that our luck was in due to the bus being practically empty - how wrong we were! The full bus took 10hrs to reach the 'ferry port' which meant that we arrived in the pitch black at 4am! We had to sit and wait outside for four hours for our ferry. We arrived at our bungalows just after mid day, they were worth the effort of getting there and were absolutely beautiful. They were literally on the beach, each with two hammocks on the balcony. The whole place only had about twenty bungalows and some of them weren't occupied so the place was pretty quiet. On our first evening Julie, Aly and myself went to a Black Moon party on a nearby beach. Our hosts at the bungalows kindly offered to drive us there but didn't realise how many people wanted to go. We managed to squeeze 16 people into a five seater truck. Alyson made friends quickly with a 40yr old french man who insisted that he had to hold on to her in order to stop himself falling out! It was a really good night spent getting to know everyone staying at our bungalows. The next couple of days were spent lounging around on the beach. One evening we all went down to a reggae bar that was at the end of our beach. They were advertizing a 'free BBQ' (naturally we were all there like a shot) but it turned out to be a few manky looking pieces of chicken.
After five days lazing around we caught the truck, then ferry, then big bus, then tuk-tuk, then local bus, then mini bus, then boat, then truck and fourteen hours later arrived on Ko Lanta. Ju and I (Em) had to move bungalows straight away as ours was broken everywhere. The island is really quiet as people are still reluctant to come here as it's on the west coast and neighbouring islands were pretty badly effected by the tsunami, however Ko Lanta escaped and is fully up and running again.
We have just come bach from a swim and think that we have all been stung by little jellyfish - we're all itchy and have red 'sting marks'. Thats what you get for being hardened travellers!
