Alyson, Emily, Julie & Katie's Adventures
Em and Aly; Highlight of Ho Chi Minh City was the trip to the Viet Cong tunnels, they were really tiny and our exceptionally small guide had trouble fiiting down them himself - no chance for us then! We had to use the 'tourist' entrance which has been specially made! Alyson really didn't like it at all and had a minor panic attack six metres under ground! Not much you can do about it down there though when your crawling about practically on your knees in the dark! Julie and I (Em) also had a go with an AK47 rifle at the shooting range and almost deafened ourselves as there was no ear muffs to soften the blow! We missed the targets but did manage to make spectacular explosions of sand where we hit the bank.
We left Saigon the next day and headed to the Mekong Delta where we got put on canoes to go through the 'jungle'! Really it was just a few trees on both sides of the river bank - no crocs or anyhting exciting like that! That evening we stayed at the dock where we were getting the boat from the next day and managed to get separated from the group. We had to stay at a different hotel from the rest of the group and ended up in a grotty room which we later discovered had rats! Much to Katie and Alyson's horror thay had been in their bags having a bit of a nibble!
Made our way to Phonm Phen (also rat infested!) and only stayed long enough to visit the killing fields and the S-21 museum where all the prisoners were held before beng taken to the fields for execution. It was a pretty horrible experience.
Caught the bus up to Siem Riap where we spent a day exploring Angkor Wat. Luckily we had little tuk tuk drivers who took us around all day, good job they did as the place is huge! It was all very impressive but one day was enough and so we've booked ourselves on a bus back to Bangkok (AGAIN!!) P.S. big hello to beccy who made our four a five for a week or so! xxx
