Alyson, Emily, Julie & Katie's Adventures
Katie & Caspar: We've just arrived here in Brisbane and met up with Alyson & Julie - it was so lovely to see them again!! We've been quite busy doing lots of adventurous stuff since our last update...
We completed our 'awesome foursome' adventure day and had a fantastic time... although the scenic helicopter ride was a bit scary as there were no doors, just lap belts to hold us in. The highlight of the day was definately the quad biking which lasted a whole hour and thanks to the recent rain and fresh mud, we got a rather good coating of dirt. Not the best day for Caspar to decide to wear a white t-shirt. The tracks were proper off road tracks, through fields of cows then through forrest and up hills and bolders etc. Fantastic fun!!
The next day we boarded our boat the 'Whitsunday Magic' for a 3 day and 2 night sail around the Whitsunday Islands. We had a fantastic boat with great food and rooms, although the group of people we were with weren't overly exciting, but the crew were great so we still had a good time. We got out to the reef on the 2nd day where we did some snorkelling but then the winds picked up and we had to spend nearly all of our time tucked behind one of the 74 islands which meant we didn't get to see the famous Whitehaven Beach. We did get off a couple of times and sat on some beaches which were beautiful. Sailing back to the mainland was great as there were 2 metre waves which made for some good fun!!
So from Airlie Beach we drove down to Hervey Bay which is where we went to Fraser Island from. We had the best few days EVER!!! We did it as part of a self-drive package so we got our own 4X4 and camping gear and were let loose on Fraser Island. The tracks aren't proper roads, bearing in mind Fraser is just a giant sane dune, and so it's all bumpy and can only be driven across by 4X4 vehicles. Once across the island we reached the main road - which is the beach!! Once the tide is out far enough all the traffic (which isn't much, it's a fairly quiet place) drives up and down the beach and turns off wherever needs be. We were even brave enough on our 2nd night to 'go it alone' and not camp at a site, but actually on the beach (well behind a dune, we didn't want to get run over in the night). I was a bit scared about dingoes (they been known to EAT children) but we didn't have any problems.
From Fraser we drove about 4 hours to Brisbane where we are now and like I said, met up with Alyson & Julie (Em is with her mum & aunty in Sydeny at the moment). Our plans from now are for Katie to probably try and find some work in a cafe or something, see some of the city etc. It'll be nice to stay in one place for a while. The photos we posted today aren't very recent ones, only up until Undara National Park, so we'll put some more on as soon as we download them. Until then, lots of love,
Katie & Caspar xx
