Alyson, Emily, Julie & Katie's Adventures
Having spent a few nights in the south of Ko Lanta, we moved to the 'busy' part a bit further north. Busy it was not! the whole place was covered in a layer of dust, just like a ghost town. Everywhere was really quiet and all the clubs and bars were empty, probably due to people still being wary about visiting the island after the tsnami. Our beach bungalows weren't quite on the beach, but we did have a nice bit of wasteland to look out onto! Yesterday we went on a boat trip which was meant to take us to four neighbouring islands. It turned into a bit of a disaster when we hit open water and it became rough. Ju and Em were sat up on the bow, completely oblivious to the panic which had gripped everyone inside. After a big wave came through the window they were all told to put on lifejackets, but there weren't enough to go round (guess who didn't get them?!). Above deck, Ju and Em had an adventure and loved it, however, below deck, Alyson and Katie had a near death experience and were ready to abandon ship at any minute! We had to turn round and head for home (mainly due to an erratic German man who swore that the 'boat could sink in seconds!'). All ended well and we got our money back. The day was not lost and we spent the afternoon round the pool in the neighbouring hotel (which we paid for), only to be told by some grumpy German woman that we were not welcome! Bloody Germans!
Arrived in Malaysia today after a pretty uneventful, and kind of comfortable, bus ride. Staying in the mankiest hostel yet, the rooms are just bigger than a double bed and there are a couple of terrapins in the shower (much to everyones horror, except Em who quite likes them!).
