Today was our first day in Edinburgh. We woke up refreshed and were ready to hit the town. We got to do some shopping and I actually bought some pretty cool stuff. I got some earrings a hairpin and a purse from a vintage shop for £4! We ate lunch outside at this cute little cafe. It was nice because we didn't have to wear our raincoats for a change. We wandered around and kind of explored the city on our own. This city is so much different than anything we saw in Ireland. The buildings are all tall and really old (in a good way). At one point I remember saying that it looked like the town from Harry Potter and like maybe 5 minutes later we passed the Elephant House which was the cafe where J.K. Rowling began writing Harry Potter! So there you go haha They had a lot of very unique stores here and outside of this fortune telling place was the woman from the Guinness Book of World Records for the most facial piercings. It was quite a site to see. From a distance I didn't think she was real. After exploring, me and Lis thought it would be a good idea to grab some wine and break in our travel cups... So we did at about 2pm. We drank our wine, downed some pringles and reviewed our photos thus far (we've got some gems ha). After our wine we decided to head on over to Edinburgh Castle which we can see from our hostel by the way. We climbed about 200 steps to get up there. This castle was crazy big. Way bigger than the one we went to in Ireland. Lots of cool things to see.
We attempted to go on the pub crawl here but they left without about 7 of us so we kind of made our own until we later met up with them. We met some really cool girls from California and had a good time. Bars here aren't nearly as good as Ireland though but a bit cheaper. We went and got some food. I tried my first kabob. It was alright. We got in at a decent time and got some sleep since we planned on doing a walking tour in the morning.
So all in all Edinburgh is a beautiful city by day but could be better at night.
Over and out!
