I got another flash flood warning early this morning but it wasn’t raining and the roads weren’t as flooded as yesterday.
I had looked up where the best places were to see the sea turtles. One of the places was the official Poipu beach which is down the road a bit from our hotel. We walked through the park area and on to the beach. We didn’t see any turtles but further around there were 2 monk seals asleep on the sand. We walked around a bit and then heard the life guard ask people to move away from the seal. The ones were saw were roped off so we knew there must be another one. As we walked back, we saw a seal making it’s way up onto the sand. He moved a short distance then stopped for a rest, until he was up away from the water.
After watching the seal for a while, we walked back through the park towards the car. I saw a lifeguard washing his car so I asked him if this was the season for turtles and what time of day was best to see them. He said we were lucky because there were some on the beach right now. If I hadn’t asked him, we would have walked bs k to the car without going a few metres further round! There were 3 Hawaiian green sea turtles on the beach. They are pretty big but not as big as the Galapagos turtles. I’m very glad we finally got to see some. We sat and watched them for a while but they hardly moved. It was really humid after all the rain so we moved on.
We had to get petrol and then we drove around where the Kauai Coffee Plantation was. We didn’t go in but could see row after row of coffee bean trees.
On the way back to Poipu, we stopped at a warehouse by the side of the road. Inside there are little stores selling handmade goods such as jewellery, clothes and collectables. It is a great way to use the space. Outside there were some food trucks. One of them was a small silver caravan selling shave ice. This is a big thing in Hawaii. It is similar to the snow cones we can get at the Easter Show - crushed iced with flavoured syrup poured over it. But, the Hawaiian ones use shaved ice which is much finer and melts in the mouth. I got a shave ice from this caravan because they only use natural flavours. Mine was shredded coconut and fresh pineapple. Yum!!
Yesterday when we drove around Poipu, we found the Grand Hyatt and thought it looked beautiful. We went in there today and it gorgeous. Just through the foyer there is an atrium where there were 4 gorgeous macaws sitting on branches. They weren’t in cages so we could have a really good look at them and chat to them. We walked through the grounds and around the pool area before coming back up to the Seaview Terrace which looked out to the water. After getting a cocktail, we sat out on the terrace for a while. That would be my pick of places to stay if I could afford it!
Eventually we had to drag ourselves away and back to our resort. We went and sat in the rocking chairs and watched the waves crash against the rocks for a while. The sea is still pumped up from the rain. The sky was getting clearer as we sat there so maybe tomorrow will be fine and sunny.
We finally had dinner at a place I had seen before we left home. The only reason I wanted to go there was because they serve a cocktail in a pineapple. Luckily the food was delicious too!

Jane Moore I had dinner at The Grand Hyatt and loved the resort. Unfortunately when I saw the prices of $990 a night for the cheapest room, I knew I wouldn't be able to stay there. I looked it up again for you both but the prices are over $1200 a night so knew the Sheraton it was
