Update day 3: So I'm starting to know the city a little, am making friends... am starting to get my feet under myself you could say I guess. I'm feeling more comfortable and more at home.... Yesterday I went to Bibiana's house and met Antonela and Sofia was there as well. After Anto and I went on a walk all over the city and she gave me a map so I can find my own way and walk around on my own... that way I start to get to know the city a bit better. Tomorrow she's taking me over to get a better jacket so I'll stay warm and some better city shoes since mine are not warm enough for the cold winter that they have here. Anto took me to the grocery to help me learn how to cook some stuff that is locally cooked and we're gonna cook lunch tomorrow so I can learn how to cook it myself... but I found veggie burgers made with spinach and found some chicken patties and stuff for lunch as well.
Her younger sister, who I met yesterday when I went over to their place, made a list of things that I could find here that I can probably find at home - so I can figure out things to cook myself here and not go crazy eating only pasta all the time hahahaha. I like variety and eating pasta every day is not my idea of fun as far as food goes. I have yet to eat asado though, so maybe I'll really like that.
I went to a coffee shop on the corner near where my apartment is and watched the Algeria/England game and drank a coffee- they also make sandwiches and serve little snacks so I talked to the guys running it and they said come back whenever I want while I'm visiting, etc. They were incredibly nice, as everyone has been so far.
Anto has been a huge help on helping me to figure out how to act in social situations. It's not really "latino" here it's more european and something that I'm not at all used to - I feel socially awkward a lot of the time because people act so differently so I've been able to ask her a lot of questions about how people behave in a certain situation, etc. and that has really helped to put me at ease.
Anyhow... I don't really know what else to say about stuff... I have started to drink yerba mate, the drink that all Argentines drink and that has mixed ratings - some say it causes cancer, some say it cures cancer and has other healthy side effects but... basically it depends on how you drink it - if you drink it super hot, it can cause esophagial cancer, but if you drink it at a normal temperature it's not quite as bad for you etc. Sorry you got all freaked out, Leslie! :)
Well, I'm going to watch the highlights of the day for the World Cup matches and to just hang out... have a great night everyone! I hope it's nice and hot there instead of all cold like it is here :( I don't like the cold!!!! It's a "humid" cold too since we're right along a river here in Rosario so it just gets you wherever you are :( Well this is all for now, I'll write you all again soon.
