Alli & Pete's Adventures
Pete & I did a wonderful trip with Fez Tours, timing it right so that we got to be at the Dawn Service for ANZAC Day on the 89th anniversary in Gallipoli. Our tour leader was a lovely woman named Arzu and we saw some beautiful places around Turkey, which happens to be one of my favourite countries I have visited. We saw the wonderful Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, before travelling to other wonderful places such as the amazing landscape of Cappadoccia to see the 'fairy chimneys', Pamukkale and the thermal baths with temple ruins sitting on the bottom of the pool, Pergamon Ampitheatre & Ephesus Library which were both just so interesting to see & especially when Ephesus is one of the seven ancient wonders of the world, the wooden horse & outlines of forts from different periods in history at Troy, with the grand finale being the trip down the coast to Gallipoli. We were dropped off by the coach at about 11pm and had to walk a couple of hours into the place where the Dawn Service was to be held. Despite having excellent sleeping bags, I have never been so cold in my life, as sitting there waiting for sunrise and the events to start ! It was so tear-jerking to witness an event where 13,000 people showed up to remember what happened all those years ago and think about those who gave their lives. I have never felt so proud to be Australian as I did here.
