Lovely morning by the pool, reading in the sun. During the course of the morning we had a couple of short, very sharp downpours of rain. Then, the black clouds would clear and we'd be back to blue skies again. Also, there was a swell that we could not detect but the swimming pool could! So the water was really swishing from end to end and cascading into the "catchment" pools. It was like being in quite a rough sea. Weird but rather invigorating.
In art we painted a bright green frog in the reeds. There was something almost of a William Morris note about it. LOL. We were both very pleased with our efforts and we think we might do a few more of these in different colours. Apparently tomorrow we are going to start a picture that will take two sessions to complete. Oooerrrr.
After painting we went to the cinema and watched a film called Magic by Moonlight. Written and directed by Woody Allen and starting Colin Firth, Eileen Atkins and a host of others. Rather fabulous period piece set in the south of France in 1928. It was really good. Liked it a lot. Some real belly laughs, beautifully shot and costumed and a real period feel. The sort of film "they don't make any more"!
We were invited for drinks in one of the suite cabins by some Australian friends of friends, Maurice and Ivy. Paul and Joan who we met through the tour I organised in Puenta Arenas, are table friends with this couple and we have met them that way. Anyway, a most CONVIVIAL session. There couldn't have been more hospitality shown. Maurice and Ivy are from Dover, so very near us. Good conversation and a great time. We staggered out, at least 5 g&ts down red lane and up to the Horizon for a very quick dinner. It was an Indian theme buffet tonight which was very nice.
Then down to Carmen's Show Lounge to see the magician again. He was excellent, and it must be noted: I very much dislike magic shows unless it is Derren Brown. But this chap was very good, unusual. And he had the face of a sad clown, but no spooky makeup or anything, just the way he looked.
Leaving that at a run, to go to the other end of the ship to see Carpenters tribute act in the theatre. I love the music of the Carpenters and this duo were excellent. They also played a slideshow of Richard and Karen Carpenter through some of the numbers and it brought it back how tragic their career was. Anorexia is a dreadful scourge once it really takes hold.
Anyway, a good day. When we got back to our cabins we found the forms for US Immigration waiting. We have to present for a face to face on Tuesday morning when we arrive in Honolulu. We have an ESTA visa already but I do so enjoy the form where we tick to say we are not International terrorists, drug smugglers, have committed genocide or been NAZI war criminals. :O Would someone who has been one of these categories actually tick to admit it?? I imagine it must serve the same purpose as the food question on that Australian Immigration tv programme, i.e if you don't tick it and are then found to have transgressed and have a suitcase full of chow mein, it's doubly bad…. Anyway, we have ticked to certify we have not been involved in genocide, international terrorism, moral turpitude (what the heck is that anyway?) or drug smuggling, so anticipate a quick pass through on Tuesday morning.
