Heading away from the crater we passed plenty of animals - giraffe, zebra, gazelle and wildebeest both at the side of the road and crossing the road. The scenery wsa amazing - again. Steve spotted a lion in a bush next to the road that countless other vehicles had driven straight past. We also came across a family of hyenas taking a bath.

We arrived at the gates of Serengeti around lunch time and were able to view the sheer magnitude of the migration from the view point there. Every day there were another 1000 wildebeest born - a good thing as 250,000 would die on the migration back to Maasi Mara.

However once we entered the park it was like someone had told all the animals to take a vacation. Vast empty plains made up most of our afternoon game drive. We saw some antelope around the place we went to get Bubu and Ana registered for their ballon flight, along with rock dassies, some baboons and Steve managed to find a lioness having a kip in a tree. This was a real wake up call for Tanya and Danielle - sometimes game drives are boring!

We made our way to our camp for the night which was in the middle of the Serengeti with no fences so anyone could visit us during the night - pesuambly all the animals we did not see in daylight!

Bubu and Ana had an early pick up for the ballon ride - Ana meeting some hyenas outside the tent. The rest of us had a small lie in until 6 when we got up to start another fairly uneventful game drive - until Steve found us a leopard in in a tree with a kill - just what I had told Jo I wanted to see. Hunter then got excited that she might see her hippo giving birth to twins under a rainbow (not to be!). The leopard was the only member of the Big 5 Bubu and Ana hadn't already seen and now they were floating above us in a ballon!

We picked them up and continued the game drive in the afternoon - which was even more uneventful except the hippo pool where we stopped for lunch. We drove out of Serengeti to a campsite in Grumeti - a private game reserve where we had an early finish.

Tanya, Danielle, Bubu and Ana had an uneventful night game drive while the rest of us slept.
