A relaxed start and the first short journey on our new truck with the full crew back to Arusha for provisions as the next few nights would be spent in basic camps not near supermarkets.
We drove to just outside the crater and divided into 2 4x4s as the truck would not be able to get in and out of the crater. We drove towards the crater stopping at a view point were you could see the crater laid out in front of you.
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera. The crater formed when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two to three million years ago. This has created a microclimate meaning animals are happy to stay there the whole year around without migrating.
This was Tanya and Danielle's first game drive they were very excited by everything. We saw all the Big 5 except leopard - because there aren't any.
The crater was stunningly beautiful and full of game - I warned Tanya and Danielle that not all game drives are like this!
Driving out of the crater we were dropped off at our basic campsite where Jo and Steve had already set up our tents and started dinner.
We all wrapped up warm ready for a cold night due to the altitude before driving to Serengeti the next day.
