After another flight which took me into my third calendar day of travelling I arrived in Cape Town to find mum waiting for me. We picked up the car and made our way to Stellenbosch and our lovely guest house. We had a short stroll around town and had some lunch then rested until a delicious dinner at Oppie Dorp just around from our guest house. Next was some much needed sleep in a real bed!
After a good breakfast we were picked up by Neil from Afrivista for our wine tour and headed to our first two tastings on a beautiful sunny day. Neil was a great guide and the vineyards were beautiful again and after the first two tastings we stopped for lunch while he took the new arrivals to their first tasting.
Meeting up for the last two tastings we went to a vineyard in a stunning setting next then finished at a vineyard where our host sang to us along with the tasting.
That evening we met up with Hanne who I met filming at Naan kuse and had a good catch up and some more wine!
The next morning we set off via the scenic route (geting lost looking for historical Paarl), stopping for great tapas in Hermanus before arriving at our hotel in Simonstown.
The next day we went to see the penguins - probably the highlight of Mum's trip! After wandering around them we headed down to Cape Point but it was shrouded in mist and visibility was really bad. We took the funicular up to the top and back and had lunch in the mist watching baboons wreaking havoc.
We continued around the coast and drove along Chapman's drive past more stunning scenery as the sun had decided to force away the clouds. Wer stopped for ice cream at Camp's bay and then arrived at our B&B. The owners were lovely and the lady was very talkative so meal times were quite protracted.
The first day we took two red bus tours to see the city and stopped off for lunch on the way and then rushed up Table Mountain as she decided to come out to see us!
The next day we headed to Western Cape to look at the spring flowers as recommended by Neil from the wine tour. The drive out was easy but then we joined a long queue of traffic to get into the park but the queue was worth it as the carpet of flowers were stunning. Added to the flora, the fauna was impressive with zebra, ostrich, eland, wildebeest and other antelopes grazing amongst the flowers.
On Mum's birthday it was pouring with rain and we headed for a mall for me to do some shopping - not Mum's favourite activity. However we had some great sushi and headed back to get ready for our meal out. The meal at the Butcher Shop was amazing - excellent steaka nd wine so we retired happy ready for our last morning in Cape Town.
Our last morning we walked around Company Gardens and the Bo Kaap district before heading up Signal Hill to get a last view of Cape Town before heading to the airport and Namibia.
