Hello again, quick update from saturday night, we went to a weird fish restaurant where you went round with a shopping trolley and chose your fish/seafood and vegetables, paid for it and then sat down and told them how you wanted it cooked! Such a random concept but the food was lovely - had some really nice red snapper with ginger, garlic and chilli! The restaurant had a massive sign saying 'if it swims we have it' haha! We then went to explore soi cowboy - an interesting sight - lots of thai women and old western men, including one who had a moustache like Charles Bronson. Yesterday we ventured out to the Erawan shrine which was beautiful, and we watched the dancers for a while before wandering down to Lumphini park - I stepped in a puddle trying to take a picture of a komodo dragon. Then we hopped into our first tuk-tuk to Wat Traimit (Temple of the Golden Buddha) to see the world's biggest golden buddha at 13ft high and weighing 5 tonnes. We continued to walk on through chinatown - which is exactly how I've always pictured asia to be - a crazy mix of smells and hundreds of stalls selling random items! I picked up a pair of earrings for 2 baht (wat a bargain!) and we got lost in a fabric market which started off outdoors and then seemed to become some kind of tunnel which went on forever, plus we were the only westerners in sight! We bought some fresh watermelon from a stall before walking to Wat Pho but as it was 4pm on a sunday I thought it might be closing. A man pointed out the time and said that the last hour was for praying, and then advised us to visit Wat Saket instead, showing us on a map and also advising us to visit a travel agent to book tickets for Chiang Mai. Before we know it he has hailed us a tuk-tuk to stop off at the travel agent before taking us to Wat Saket for 40 baht. We get in thinking we can make him drop us at the wat but he insists on taking us to the travel place and doesnt look too happy when we come out 2 minutes later after feigning interest in a train journey and saying we will book later! We get back in the tuk-tuk and end up paying him 100 baht just to get rid of him, but fortunately it is only a short walk to Wat Saket/Golden Mount where we arrive just before closing time, and manage to climb the steps to the top and see the sun starting to set - it was a lovely view from the top! We ate at Cabbages & Condoms again that night, I had a non spicy meal this time whilst Josh went for pork and papaya salad - it was the most tender pork I have ever tried! yum!

Lisa Oh my god i've been to the fabric market - and yes its well funny everyone really stare at you! Never go anywhere you haven't planned to go, if they are telling you to go somewhere else because something is closed that is the start of a scam so just stick to your original plans. Some advice for chiang mai..... 1. if you get the train you can book the ticket at hua lumphong station (cheapest way). You can get the 59 bus there i think. 2. Buy the bottom bunk, its much nicer (you two could probably share it so you could book one upper and one lower bunk). The 2nd class fan carriage is fine, the air conditioned one is freezing. Take toilet roll for the toilet on the train. 3. When you get to chiang mai DO NOT get in a tuk tuk. Get in a songtow - red or brown little bus thing, they will be parked a little way away from the station entrance in the car park. 4. Could stay at little bird guest house or nice place 2. 5. Go to roots, rock, reggae bar!! Eat loads and have fun...i love chiang mai! xxx
