Ali's Travels
30th May 2005
Todays the day everyone was waiting for, the whole point of the trek.........we got up at 5am and started walking to the check point at 5.30am.
We walked our way round the mountain to the bottom of the Sun Gate, where we climbed 50 more steps that were vertually vertical, and then we saw it, Machu Picchu..........its was so stunning. We congratulated each other on making it and then we sat down and waited for the sun to rise over Machu Picchu.
We walked our way down to the ruins had a few photo's taken and then went and got out passports stamps..........wicked!
After about half an hour we were then taken on a guided tour by Max around the ruins.........which took about 2hours.
It was so funny, you don't have to trek to Machu Picchu, you can get the train and bus, some people that had done this, who climbed up to the Sun Gate were complaining about how hard a walk it was and how knackered there were!!!! I felt like telling them "Knackered........knackered, you don't know the meaning of the word!!!"
We were shown some photo's of Machu Picchu when it was discovered, all over grown in jungle, its a wonder they did find it!
After the tour we were free to do what we wanted for a couple of hours, some look around the ruins some more, otheres climbed another mountain to the Moon Gate, and others (including me) went a got the biggest best beer in the whole world!
We left Machu Picchu and took the short bus ride down into the town of Aguas Callientus, where we had luch and said our goodbyes. Ben and I had decided to stay an extra night there so we could go to the Hot Springs.
Our hostel, typically was at the top of the steep hill, and our room was at the top of the hostel (no lift). I had a shower and went straight to sleep.this was at about 6/7pm...............
