Ali's Travels
8th May 2005
Went into Ica, to the Museo Regional De Ica, which collects artifacts from the Paracas, Nazca and Inca cultures, weavings, ceramics and mummies. The colours in some of the potteries and weavings were so viberant, it amazes me how such vast amounts of these items have servived over the years. I found the mummies, trepanned heads and trophy heads the most facinating (WARNING.....I will be putting some not so pleasent photo's on this, so don't let the kids see), there was even a preserved Macaw, feathers and all! We also saw a model scale of the Nazca Lines but I am sure the real things will be better!
At 4pm we jumped into our dune buggy which carries 7 people (excluding driver), we were in a convoy of four buggies..........it was brillant, scary, thrilling...........we stopped for a spot of sand boarding, the first dune was massive and vertical, I of course managed like a professional, skiing effortlessly down - I bloody wish! More like rolling down arse over tit and coming looking like the sand yeti! Was fun, until we got to the second dune..........most of the girls decided that it was far more fun to sit on the board and go down the dunes this way, so as I went down and I wiped out big time, losing control of the board which continued down the dune with out me, I in the mean time am tumbling down not knowing which was is up. Unfortunately my board hit (at a quite a speed, I imagine) a girl at the bottom! Bloody Marvalous! She couldn't move her wrist and her back hurt! Apparently she had a weak wrist from a previous break, she was ok about it, you accidents happen and all that but I felt awful! Her and her boyfriend went off early to find a hospital (which I later found out was over an hour away). Aanyway I have decided sand boarding is NOT for me!
We got back and had a shower where I discovered another sand dune in my pants!
That evening we met up for a some beers with the other people in our buggy at there hotel, got very drunk and locked out the hostel, well it was 2am before we got back. Serveral minutes of knocking on the door got soemones attension!
