Ali's Travels
7th May 2005
Caught a bus to a town called Ica, which is another hour south down the Panamericana Highway. Very bizzare landscape! surrounded by green fields and in the distance surrounded by hugh sand dunes.
Driving into the town we passed this amazing flower market, the colours on these flowers were so viberant!
This time when we got of the bus much to our surpirse we were not crowded by touts? We caught a taxi (again small, I've now learn't its the norm here!) and travelled about 10minutes out of Ica to the town of Huacachina, which is an Oasis in the middle of the desert, its where all the sand boarders go.
We booked into the hostel, shared toilets!!!! and we were booked on the 4pm sand boarding and dune buggying excursion, but we decided as we had only arrived at 3.30pm it was all abit rushed, so we booked up for tomorrow.
Took a wander around the Oasis, bars, resturants line the edge, but non the less its tranqil and being surrounding by the highest dunes I have ever seen, it was stunning! Spent the afternoon just chilling and watching the hardcore sandboarders - they are not wired properly.
The hostel put on a Barbaque, so we had a few drinks and met some other travellers, in particular two NZ ladies, Anne and Cheryl, they are mad as fish but so funny, hope to catch up with Cheryl when I am in NZ. Anne will be in England.
