We left Coober Pedy in a misty fog and continued down the Stuart Highway towards Port Augusta, passing lots of caravans heading north for the warmer weather! The desert area is looking quite green due to the unseasonal weather which is nice to see.
We had a lunch stop at Woomera to see if anything had changed since we were here with the boys in 1998. It's pretty quiet but interesting with its displays of rockets and satellite debris.
The low cloud continued, but cleared a bit when we stopped for the night at a lookout - Hancock's lookout, overlooking the Spencer Gulf and Flinders Ranges. Beautiful! The following day, after checking the weather forecast, the roads were still clear for us to drive the Strzelecki Track, so we headed for the Flinders Ranges for a look around on our way.
Unfortunately, when we stopped for a cuppa at Hawker, we heard that all the dirt roads were now closed, plus the weather had worsened. We actually almost got bogged when we stopped to look at an historical site just off the bitumen!
So we turned around and headed back towards Peterborough and on to Broken Hill. It has rained most of the way, but when I was feeling down about the circumstances, God gave us an amazing rainbow right in front of us - the most vivid colours you've ever seen! And on a positive note, this area really needs the rain, so God knows best!
