Eventually back at a beach again! We were so organised when we got here, knew exactly which hotel we wanted to go to, so as soon as we got off the bus, it was straight in the tuk tuk and straight to Beach Road Guesthouse, which was lovely, and had a great pool.
We dumped our bags and changed into our swim stuff and headed straight for the beach, it was chilled and relaxed, so had a fairly lazy day. After sitting on the beach for a few hours, we realised we wern't on the main backpacker beach, so we headed in that direction, only to find that Serendipity beach had actually been washed away in the typhoon a week or so earlier and the sea just came right up to the front of the bars and restaurants. So we headed back to the hotel pool for the rest of the day and to see if we could find the girls.
One of the girls (Sandy) had already been here in July and had made friends with a bar owner, who was nice enough to take us all out to dinner to a tradirtional Khemer restaurant in the middle of nowhere, where none of the staff spoke English and none of the menu was in English, so Lee (the bar owner) just ordered everything for us, it was like a lucky dip! It was soooo nice and one of the cheapest meals we've had.
The next day we wall went on a snorkelling boat trip together, which was quite fun. We thought we were going to be lucky enough to have the longtail boat all to ourselves, but were "fortunate" enough to share it with a 60 year old, rather large German man and his 20 something Thai companion, both didnt speak a word to each other throughout the whole day!?!?! The coral and fish wern't too colourful, but there were still alot there. The boat stopped on a private island for lunch, where we had BBQ baracuda, which was lovely, then headed round to the other side of the island where the beach was amazing and had a cool little hammcock bar. The only problem was we all kept getting stung by these invisible plankton things, so we headed back to the boat to make our way home, having one last snorkel stop on the way.
That night we went out for an Indian, in a restaurant recommended to us by Lee, which was nice. Then went to a couple of bars and one shack (because the original bar had been washed away in the typhoon, they just had a shack) for a few drinks.
The following day we went to a private beach owned by a hotel, that the girls were raving about and it was lovely, although we did have to pay $6 to use it but were then allowed to use the rest of the hotel's facilities including their huge pool.
It was our final night in sihanoukville, so we all went out for dinner at a BBQ place, then we had to catch our night bus at 7pm to Siem Reap. The girls had splashed out on a private taxi and were leaving tomorrow, but were stopping in Phnom Penh to see the Killing Fields on their way, so we said we'd find a nice hostel and they can meet us there!
Onwards to the temples......
