I think our last blog was over a week ago so there's quite a bit to update you on, I'll try not to ramble...
Before we left '1770' we went right into the town and found a campsite literally on the beach, shame we didn't stay there, but before we left the town we hired a canoe and paddled around the bay. Great fun had there!
We stopped for lunch in Bundaberg, and visited the rum distillery. Got four free tastings, yum yum. I (Alex) had to drive though so had to be careful.
We've visited Fraser Island from Hervey Bay, walked Eli Creek, and swam in Lake McKenzie. The island truly was a natural wonder, beautiful scenery and a beach used as a motorway, beach and airstrip all at the same time. We did find the place quite touristy though!
Next we visited a place called Alex Beach, via Noosa Heads (the 'Nice' of Australia - very posh at Noosa, had the best pizza I've ever had for lunch there). At Alex beach we hired surf boards for a day and took to the waves. It was really hard work and I only managed to stand up a couple of times, woke up with a lot of bruises the next day, but we had great fun trying to surf!
We've also spent a lovely couple of days with Richard and Jeanette around Brisbane. Took a ferry through the city centre, went out Koala spotting, and spotted one eventually, saw a possum and a lizard in the city, drove up various mountains around the city to catch some awesome views of the area and watch people hang-gliding. R and J also took us down to the coast for a cracking fish and chips!
Our next drive took us down the coast through the Gold Coast, which wasn't that interesting - too built up for us - so we didn't stop there. We loved Byron Bay, a really lovely town, very laid back, and the beach was amazing. We had sushi in Byron and reminissed about Japan a bit. Before leaving the next day we visited the lighthouse and stood on the most easterly point of mainland Australia.
Our next stop was Lennox Head. A little coastal town we completely fell in love with. That place has tempted us the most with thoughts of emigration! Beautiful beach, good little village centre, and an amazing natural lake of tea! Wonderfully warm and you can swim in it! Didn't taste of tea unfortunately. Tea grows naturally around the lake so over years the lake has just become full of tea, fresh water, and that's about it.
We are now staying in a place called South West Rocks, a great little seaside town where we've spent the day walking the town, doing a bit of shopping and relaxing by the creek!
Hope everyone is well at home?
Lots Of Love
