Puerto Galera - Sabang
We definitely needed an escape from Manila and Angeles.
Nearest "beach resort" is Puerto Galera in Mindoro, so hopped on a bus to Batangas, a little town south of Manila and from there went over to Sabang. That night we slept ok until the generator turned off at midnight, and there was no ocean breeze to cool us down, and not to mention non-stop karaoke few meters away. (Filipinos actually seemed to take karaoke very seriously!!! Not just a thing that you do after having too many drinks!!).
Walking and looking around Sabang, (supposed backpacker hot spot), whilst eating some sort of custard filled bun that we bought at a steal-of-a-deal from a lady selling them on the street we recounted who we had seen, we realized that of the last 40 foreigners we saw, maybe 4 were under 40. And the number of women: zero. Yep, looking around the restaurant it was the old timers and their far too petite (and young) Filipinos. We did later learn that Sabang is a great place to listen to 75 year old American men recount the finer points of prostitution over breakfast. Delicious!
The town itself was very small and built via alleys which were full of bars and diving shops. The beach was quite a disappointment but still a nice retreat from Manila for a few days!
