Today was the first day of the biggest adventure of my life. Today we woke up at 3:00am of course none of us slept. I was lying in bed with my eyes closed just thinking "yup I'm still awake" all night long and then my alarm went off. I doubled checked to make sure I had everything, passport, EuRail, train reservations, our 50 page itinerary that we made for our entire trip and my fedora.
Our cab picked us up at 4:00am we loaded up our one backpack each in the trunk and were at the airport by 4:08am. We were honestly the first people there. The ticket booths weren't even opened yet. We checked in with RyanAir and were then the first in like at security by 4:30am. Of course security didn't open until 5:00 and my boarding pass wouldn't scan at security. Talk about being freaked out! Then I had to wait in the security line again and security said I had too many travel sized bottles (thanks to Mom, Auntie and the hotel we stayed in). I gave some big doe eyes and she said fine don't tell anyone and threw them right back in my bag, yes!
We boarded our hour long flight to London Stansted and all slept like babies.
We arrived safely and smoothly in London this morning where we were able to hop on an earlier bus to Shoreditch where my two sorority sisters are studying abroad and letting us stay with them.
We hit the ground running today! It was a gorgeous day in London today. It was 70 degrees and so sunny! We walked from Shoreditch, a small area in London, to Paul Cathedral. We then went over Millennium Bridge to the Tate Modern where we saw Monet's Waterlillies. The city and the river was so busy today. Everyone was enjoying the live music and the sun. Walking through London is amazing everything is so beautiful, the architecture is so extreme from classical to modern buildings and there are so many different people walking by. We walked along the river and saw Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. From there we walked to the London Tower and Tower Bridge. We grabbed an ice cream and sat along the Thames River, in total disbelief that we are officially on our Euro Trip and in London!
Love,
Al
PS. I hope I can update this blog daily for you all, but I'm not sure if we will have regular wifi access. Also, I won't be able to post too many photos until I am back to Cork because they're all on my camera. Stay tuned for those at the end of the month!
