Tonight I give you a brief insight on today's events. Having decided to run a few errands and pop to Chirnside to go to a travel agency and buy a summers dress, my maxi dress I originally put on didn't stay on for very long after a calling to help with a number of events on the farm. Firstly a poor baba calf was in isolation due to its red eye which has left it blind temporarily. I actually got kicked by the little bumface trying to help Sarah put an injection into its rump- mission unsuccessful!
However what was beautiful was being involved in helping out another baba this time a new born from yesterday, to suckle on its mother. Because of high temperatures the mothers are feeding off the little green grass there is to satisfy their hunger and of course to build strength and produce sufficient milk. However for many hours the little thing was abandoned and left in the 27 degree heat on the hill. Sarah and I managed to move him and hand feed him eventually but his buckled legs and tight tendons are making it impossible for him to be steady in his feet and enable him to feed from its mother.
In hindsight Mothers of all species prove to be selfish and bad tempered at times ... We just hope that our own mothers would never abandon us when grass appears to be greener on the other side of the fence. Let's big up mothers on the lead up to mothers day! :)
