We have finally had two full sunny days with no clouds in the sky! However, today we got up early and are missing the sun as we are taking a 10 hour bus/boat journey from Phuket to Koh Phangan in time for the full moon party on Saturday night. So far we've been on a crammed minibus, where Ruth was say on some sort of high chair and I was sat backwards on something that didn't even resemble a seat, but we kept picking up more people and squeezing them in. But now we've transferred onto a boiling hot coach where I think we're going to spend most of the day before we pick up the ferry later.
Yesterday we had a good day on another lovely beach! It was so hot, we were in the sea every 10 minutes! But Ruth and Jade are suffering with a bit of sun burn today.
In the evening we intended to head over to Phuket Town to get something to eat and have a mooch around the shops, but instead we ended up in Patong Bay!
Before we came to Phuket, a few people had told us it is like the Thai version of Blackpool. But we didn't get this impression where we were staying at all - I could easily spend a two week holiday there! But Patong could definitely be compared to Blackpool - a lot of bright lights and tacky shops. But it was nice to be somewhere livelier for a night. We had a look around then went somewhere to eat. We went to sit upstairs to get away from the street but were seated under an overloaded electricity cable which was making electrical sounds the whole time, like the wires were all touching. So for fear of being electrocuted we ate and took a raving disco taxi back over to Kata beach where we were staying and decided to head to a bar. We half picked and half got dragged into one by some overly friendly locals. They were very nice and one lady was trying to set Ruth up with her son, but then changed the topic onto how old her mum is (Lynda , your age is now officially public knowledge in Thailand!). They then made a larger lady of their family dance and she then liked to give Jade a hug while grabbing her belly! On looking round we originally thought we'd walked into a ladyboy bar, however we quickly realised this was the sort of bar where men come to chat to the locals and pay for their services. Realising this wasn't really our scene we drank up and moved on. On looking around we saw every bar was exactly the same! We were staying in a huge red light district! But it provided us with a laugh and the beach was nice so never mind! We've had a really nice couple of days here.
We've planned to stay four nights at our next island so fingers crossed for another nice chill out beach! I think we are starting to take them for granted now!
