Before I talk about Nha Trang I have to talk about the bus ride there. We had only paid for seating buses and when a sleeper bus arrived we were delighted. This delight was short lived after we tried three of the beds to find that they were not built for people as tall as Sarah, let alone me. What makes matters worse is the fact that the legs are enclosed and to turn you have to climb out and back in again at the desired angle. It is fair to say that that it was one of the most uncomfortable nights I have ever had!
Anyway, we arrived in Nha Trang at 6 in the morning and found a cheap hotel and got a couple of extra hours of sleep before exploring the city (I say city but mean beach). After the first bar where we felt well under dressed we moved up the beach to a place called Loisianas Brewhouse (which as the name suggests brewed it's own beer). This bar was great as it had a swimming pool in it. We enjoyed it too much as we blew most of our daily budget in there. That evening we had a fresh (still alive when we arrived) seafood barbeque, where Sarah wouldn't let me get tortoise so I had shark instead.
The next day we went to a natural mineral spring and had a mud bath (our second of the trip so far)followed by a relaxing swim in a hot spring. It was more like a bath than a swimming pool, so the swimming was kept to a minimum. Sarah also bought a coconut drink which was just a coconut with the top cut off and a straw, she seemed to enjoy it.
Our last day in Nha Trang was spent on a boat trip to four islands in the bay (we only actually got off at two). The first island was so we could snorkel over a coral reef (we couldn'y really see the reef as it weas a cloudy day). Both Sarah and I decided to turn back after numerous Jelly fish stings. My arms were marked for a couple of days (b******s!!!). I waqsn't feeling too well when we got back on the boat as the up and dopwn motion was very pronounced (Leah you would have struggled in the dock!) but after another seafood dinner (which the crew had caught whilst we were snorkelling, including sea urchins) felt much better.
The guide on the tour then announced that the crew would play a few songs for us as you can't swim for 15 minutes after a feast (different advice to Britain but when in Vietnam and all that). Listening to three Vietnamese guys covering "Last Christmas" by Wham was quite an experience. After this it was time for the floating bar! This consisted of jumping off the side of the boat, getting a float whilst a guy on a bigger float poured glasses of mulberry wine (Vietnamese mulberry wine!). As his float sank he just gave people the bottle so I ended up floating in the South China Sea drinking out of a bottle of wine in the pouring rain! Both Sarah and I decided that it was quite an odd (but incredibly fun) experience.
The final two islands were a beach followed by an aquarium but after the floating bar there isn't too much to say about them.
