After the sombre city of Hue we arrived in Hoi An around midday after one of the most picturesque bus rides so far. The bus took the coastal road which combined rolling mountains, the greenest fields you will ever see and sea views.
After swearing that we would not check into the first hotel, we checked into the first hotel (as it had a swimming pool). We took a slow walk into town and were soon too hot so stopped for lunch. I had a local specialty, noodles, which you mixed yourself and I was so rubbish at it the waiter did it for me (it was like being ten again). After this we took a quick walk back to the hotel (mainly the swimming pool) and spent the rest of thye day relaxing (as would be the norm for Hoi An).
As it was the first time we had been near a beach we decide that we had to spend at least part of our time in Hoi An on it. We were told that it was two and a half kilometres away, it turned out to be at least four! We arrived thirsty and hot so ordered drinks and sat in the shade. This was followed by a swim (in the remarkedly warm waters. The waves were quite large so half an hour of wave crashing ensued (I forgot how much fun it was). I then decided to act my age and dug three large holes and connected them via tunnels (I should have been an architect other than my desire to then destroy what I've done) much to the amusement of the locals. Once I was all hole dug out I decidse to go wave crashing again (this time joined by some locals), oh to be a child again!
This turned out to be a mistake as I spent the rest of the evening moaning about my burnt neck (I could have cooked eggs on it). It doesn't matter now though as it has mellowed to a lovely brown.
There is not much else to report in Hoi An as we have done very little, and enjoyed every second of it, other than relax by the river/beach/pool (delete as appropriate).
