Ok so we woke up this morning and realised we've been here two weeks!! It actually feels like alot longer, I guess because we've done quite alot already...
Anywho..
The plan was to set off for Yosemite National Park bright and early as we we're camped only a few miles from the entrance...didn't end up leaving quite as early as we hoped so when we arrived at the entrance (after passing several signs warning that by law we must carry snow chains at all times - being a rental RV we didn't have any, not that either of us would have had a clue how to fit them!!) Mark 'fessed up to the ranger on the gate that we didnt have any and asked if it would be a problem...the guy kinda chuckled and confirmed our fears that heavy snow was forecast overnight which meant we wouldn't be able to camp overnight above 5,000 feet or we'd be stuck!!! So he waved us on our jolly way after we promised we would exit the park at the first sign on snow or before night fall....
So..... after driving what seemed like hours (the roads are very narrow etc and the limit is only maximum of 35 mph and mainly 15) through amazing scenery we spotted our first deer crossing the road in front of us, much to my delight! After a few more sightings of deer we we're convinced we were going to spot a bear or mountain lion so I had the grand job of watching the passing woods like a hawk while Mark tackled the ever narrowing roads ( trying not to add more injuries to the RVs sides!!) but eventually we realised this was highly unlikely and were happy enough with spoting a Coyote on the side of the road instead however as we were stopped on a bend we only had a quick glimpse...
So a little further on and we were nearing the tunnel which offered our first amazing view on the other side of it...only to be stopped in our tracks (literally!) by a sign stating " Tunnel Height 10' 2' at curve" to which we thought S@#!T as out RV is 12 foot high! So there we sat at the entrance of the tunnel contemplating what to do when an extremely rude and impatient tit behind us started beeping violently so we had little choice but to slowly enter the tunnel whilst closing our eyes, gritting our teeth and praying to the holy lord to spare our campers roof.... it's safe to say it was the worst 5 minutes of my life and Mark got cramp in his bum cheek after having them clenched that tight!!
Anyway we made it through and it was certainly worth the bother as the view in front of us was fantastic... A valley of various mountains with waterfalls gushing over the sides and a carpet of trees on ground level. It was the worst weather we have had since arriving with today being miserable and gray but nothing could spoil that view.
We soon realised that the whole park area was more views such as this and were gutted that we had suck little time to explore the area a bit more... we did manage to stop at Bridaveil Falls and walk right up to it ( very gald I had my coat with me!) and we also visited the museum and information centre where we watched a short film on how the canyon was formed etc, then we had a look at the model native indian village of the original native 'Ahwaneechee' tribe before we had to start leaving the park due to looming black clouds.
Safe to say we both want to return one day and have a proper look around this amazing natural wonder.
Over and out for now A & M xxx
