Evening all from Bear Country!
So today we made it to Sequoia National Park (in one piece thanks to Marks skillful driving!) and the amazing scene of snow peaked mountains, alpine rivers, grass meadows and home of the largest living tree on the planet, the big man 'General Sherman' which Mark affectionately refers to as 'Big G'!!! Loser!
Anyway, after worrying that we had driven all this way only to be turned away (they had a supposed maximum entry limit of 22 feet long and we are 25, due to snow) the ranger happily waved us through and we found camp for the night.
So by law (due to the Black Bears) we had to put all our food in a bear box overnight so first job when we stopped was to pack anything with a scent into it....so out came practically everything including the 6 frozen chicken breast we had in the freezer and we succumbed to the fact that we would be eating chicken for the foreseable future! So feeling slightly worried about leaving all our food etc and the camper alone with all the scary bears around we headed out for an afternoon stroll to the swinging bridge nearby for some photo opportunities...being the natural explorers we are on the way back we took a wrong turn and ended up in the middle of the forest unsuprisingly i began to slightly perspire at the thought of spending the night wandering the forest in search of the RV... thankfully St Christopher was looking out for us and we found our way back unscathed amd settled in for our scrumptious dinner of tinned Ravioli, yum yum!
I can't say it was the best night sleep i've had with thoughts of bears ripping through the RV but when i woke i felt relieved and happy that all the chicken etc was still safely tucked away in the bear box....obviously we had nothing that smelt tempting enough to wake up from hibernation for (i dont blame them either).
Bear hugs from A & M xxx
