Howdy Howdy Howdy...
After a night of frantic worry (Aimee with fears of ravid bears and me with an almost maternal fear for the lovely plump chicken breasts all alone outside) dawn broke and we rose like salmon and following a hearty breakfast of 1 x (cold) pop tart (between us) and 1 x nutrigrain bar each we hit the road in search of the big man.
Its been quite a while since it snowed here but theres still 5-6 feet at the side of the road in places, its unreal. After negotiating our way along some extremely windy roads snaking up the side of the mountain we reached the giants forest.
You could see instantly why its called that - the trees are absolutely massive, and there, like a shining beacon in the distance was the chief, the big man - General Sherman.
If you look at the top of the tree itself, its actually dead but it continues to grow (in width), enough new wood is added each year to match that of an average 60 foot tree.
Safe to say you could live in it! I never thought id be so amazed with a TREE.
So following embracing the big man and saying our (tearful) goodbyes we headed off and started making our way back down the mountain.
We had heard about an overturned tree on the way out of the park that has been tunnelled through to allow traffic to pass through and were slightly concerned that we might not fit, 'him' upstairs must have been looking out for us though (or maybe it was Aimees St.Christopher) as we somehow we seemed to avoid it and exited the park with all parts of the RV in tact (well, almost)...
Next job was to find a place to settle in for the night and we found our way to another KOA near Oakhurst, which was also set in the foothills of Yosemite (more Buds were had) along with an interesting conversation with one of the local tennants who upon hearing our accents asked where in the Uk we were from as he "used to work with a Jodie..."
He looked at us when he said that as though we should OBVIOUSLY know what the hell he was rattling on about, safe to say we stared back blankly whilst giving the usual ("mmmmmmkayyy...")
It was only when he mentioned he was aware that we "all had different accents in the UK" that it hit me:
Jodie actually meant GEORDIE!! He worked with a Geordie, not some mythical Jodie character after all.
Now it all makes sense!
So the rest of the evening was spent forcing down as much chicken as possible before it went off. Hoping for an early start to reach Yosemite first thing in the morning as snow is forecast for the next 48 hours...
Fingers crossed they let us in.
Face kisses and man hugs.
A& M xx
