The Red River Gorge has been amazing! First, meeting up with Nathan, James and Greg and climbing for two days. Trying to build back up my strength after such a long hiatus this summer. Even though I was out on a climbing trip almost every day, I didn't actually /climb/ unless we found time on our one day off to climb. So, my first day at the Red, it was great to see Nathan and friends and the climbing was fantastic!
We took a day off after two days of climbing and checked out the near-by town of Slade... not much more than grocery shopping, but it was great to let our muscles recover.
Then, /more/ of our friends from High Rocks showed up and climbed for flippin' FIVE days straight! They're more hardcore that I am, they also hurt pretty badly by the last day.
I chatted a bit about the climbing experience in my photo descriptions, so if you're curious, take a peek. Miguel's pizza is phenomenal and I had no idea you could get Ben and Jerry's on a stick! The atmosphere here at the campground is very chill and supportive, everyone climbs, everyone rocks (heh).
Nathan's birthday was a bit of a rollercoaster - grabbing a divine breakfast at a local diner, but then had to take his car to the Subie dealership to get looked at. The nicest people, and they did a great job with very short notice, but still not a great thing to get on your b-day. So, we went and saw Contagion to clear our minds and grabbed Chipotle before heading home. Birthday, Take 2 is tomorrow and hopefully Asheville will live up to it's awesomeness.
Heading back to NC for another 4-day shift will be a nice break and then plans are to head back to Kentucky! Nathan is just coming back to grab a few things and then head back with a friend. More to come!
