Today was our last day in Mildura. The kids have loved the warmer weather. Emily has been taking the occasional independent step for the last month but has been putting a few together since arriving in Mildura. William is loving playing outside in the dirt with his cars.
We had been wanting to learn something of the farming in the area and so decided to visit 'Orange World'. William was excited in the car and Emily slept. Mark and I were a bit suspect of the name and when we arrived the signs were faded, the place looked worn and the shop was tiny. We decided to do the tour since we were already there.
We purchased tickets for the tour and at the same time ordered a coffee (let's just say we have a contender for worst coffee on the trip!) To our surprise though the tour was informative, interesting and funny. We had some really delicious freshly squeezed orange juice (made by William). Apparently the recent frosts had intensified the flavour and sweetness. We sat in carriages behind a tractor and were driven around the farm.
Orange World was used to film a Cottees cordial advertisement but the producers didn't think the oranges were orange enough or the trees green so used plastic oranges and hung them in the avocado trees.
William lost interest about 15 minutes into the tour and lay with his head on Marks lap!
That afternoon we were in need of a coffee after our disastrous one that morning so headed back to 27 Deakin and gave into the temptation of the lemon meringue pie. Delicious.
They have a really cool children's store in Mildura called Princess for a knight so we popped in there and picked up a few cute things for Emily. What a lovely wee shop!
The cover photo is from our paddle steamer trip yesterday.
Off to the outback tomorrow - Broken Hill.
