It was possibly the worse bus ride of my life to get us to Sucre. Almost all the way of this 13 hour bus journey was on unpaved roads and even though it was supposed to be VIP Cama bus (meaning the chairs should be able to fully recline) my chair was broken. For a bus ride of such a duration and the class we paid for, one would expect a loo on-board, however no. There was only one stop at 3am in the middle of nature for the entire bus to go if nature called, which was quite funny as the entire bus was out in this open field. Was rather interesting experience, not one I'd like to repeat again though.
Sucre, the official capital of Bolivia for political reasons only, was really quaint and a perfect place to recover after that gruelling bus ride. We booked into a really lovely place with a court yard and all for under £10, a bit of luxury to sooth the shattered nerves. Sucre offered loads of lovely places to eat and unique coffee shops. Also the surrounding mountains were visible from the town. I met a local guy when posting post cards who offered to show me around on his motorcycle. Our motorcycle trip took us to the mirador (viewpoint). We drove through the towns where the poverty was so visible. Through the mountain passes to the other side of town where there were more amazing views. We went to a local pub to try ChiCha one of their local drinks made from maize. The locals sat around plastic tables and chairs and had large buckets of Chi cha in the middle. They also had calendar girls up on the walls (something that is evident all over Bolivia even in restaurants and places to stay). It is rather odd seeing that the local ladies are so conservatively dressed with layers of skirts and signature Italian style hats. After the my private tour I went for a local massage which was amazing and under £5.
The girls and I had sundownders (Bolivian vino tinto) at the mirodor with a stunning sun set. Another amazing place and surreal experiences.
