Pulau Perhentian islands
Welcome to our blog of the islands guys.
We decided to break this trip up as our mates told us the journey to Malaysia was an absolute nightmare!
So we left phi phi and got a 2 hour boat to Krabi and spent a night here, we had a class little guest house for a 5er and were right near night markets a massive shopping mall so you can all imagine how happy Mich. was! We also were naughty and had a kfc but it was lush! Mich bought this cute bear bag which she loves, will put a photo on the site for all you bag lovers out there!
We were up early the next day to catch our minivan to Had Yai 4 hours, this journey was pretty stress free as the air-conditioning worked and we weren't that cramped in and our driver was tanking it all the way so probably cut an hour off so fair play to him, we noticed straight away that the more south you head towards Malaysia the more Muslims there are.
Had Yai was also a pleasant surprise we got a room right next to the train station again for a 5er! But this one had clean towels and was a lot nicer than rooms for that money in the past.
We had a lush little siesta and woke up around 5pm to explore the city, again we found a massive complex of shops, enjoyed some wifi and had a pizza hut, there was a cinema here but none of the films were in English, gutted!
We were up early the next day and was in a real dilemma to get another minivan or the train, trains are so much cheaper and more comfortable but we read so many reports that this particular line from Had Yai through Yala to Sungai Kolok has been bombed several times over the last few years because of the conflict between the Buddhist and the Muslims. But we hadn't heard anything so we went for the train as soon as we got near the station we heard it has been shut due to an accident, so we headed to the mini van station. We felt peace of mind not going on that line even though it was a lot more expensive on the minivan.
Eventually after a couple hours of the Thai driver loading parcels on to the van we boarded the small van, I was next to a Thai guy about 6 ft 5in at the back we had a 5min stop in 4 hours, the guy thought I had a comfortable shoulder and slept on it most of the way and I had a little Michele giggling next to me, I didn't have the heart to tell him to get off so I just went along with it though as you can imagine I wasn't best impressed!
We were really pleased to of reached to boarder, so travelers if you are taking this route make sure you check if there's any trouble before hand and mini bus is much safer.
The boarder crossing was a breeze 15 minutes and we were in another new country and had another new stamp in our passports, we then hoped into a taxi and drove to Koala besut 2 hours 80 ringgit, and then a 30 minute speed boat ride to the small Perhentian island, we stopped on the small island the first night (coral bay) and watched a magical sunset from our room up on the rocks. This place is ten times more chilled out than Thailand even with no pumping music just the sound of the waves as you eat and sleep, if you like your peace and quiet you will love it on coral bay. We stayed in a cheap little room on the beach and watched an amazing thunder storm which scared the living .... out of me as we were right on the sea I though a wave was going to take us away. Waking up to the sound of the waves was a first for us and made us so relaxed as we woke up and took a morning walk over to long beach and had brekkie.
The next morning we took a taxi boat to the south of the small island to a little resort called impiani resort this was a little more expensive 150 ringgit about 23 quid but the room was lush the view was incredible and we had a private beach, 23 is loads for me and mich but every time we pay that for a room we just think of a travel lodge at home and then realize its nothing for what we are getting!
We chilled on the beach and did some snorkeling and at about 5 I joined a game of volleyball with the workers and some of the guests from the hotel, my team won 4-1 very happy with the result but it was so nice doing some exercise and working up a sweat.
The next morning we checked out and got a taxi boat to flora bay which is on the big island and checked in to another cute little wood cabin, again another amazing beach which white sand and crystal clear water, we then set off on our snorkeling trip this was a highlight for us as we swam along side these massive beautiful sea turtles, they are so peaceful as they swam gracefully through the ocean. After our snorkeling trip we had a romantic dinner underneath the stars and had a confusing conversation about the universe and how it all began, and how vulnerable we are to when its all going to end! Deep stuff!
I think Thailand was like the Perhentian islands 20 years ago, but here there are no roads, no-one hassling you to buy things and hardly any tourists. Me and mish have definitely found our beach paradise!
The next few days we went into super tan mode, slept and played games on the beach 20 questions is our fav and the score now is 14 - 14 wee keep you updated!
We stayed 6 days on the islands 2 nights on the small island, 4 nights on the big island, you get so relaxed here! Sometimes I couldn't even be bothered to go and eat!
On the last night of the island it was our 4 year aniversy, i surprised mich with a illegal bottle of red, and a candle light drink on the beach, and she said i couldnt be romantic!!!!
Thanks for reading our blogs and we hope we aren't boring you to much! Next stop Kuala Lumpur!
