This was either the best night ever...Or the s***test!!! It was like Marmite!!!
It was agreat way to bring in the new year and I really was great to have experienced the absolute filth of a party it was. Get messed up, tread on broken glass, risk getting robbed, risk getting drinks spiked. You choose!!!
The Journey over from Ko Samui was ace. In the back of a speedboat which felt like it was going to take off everytime it hit a wave and 700Baht return wasn't a bad price and we could easily get out of the crowds of Haad Rin once we were done.
Me & Jess had met a couple from the UK and a couple from Aussie so we all decided to stick it out together and look after each other. Simple plan but difficult to master when you condider this place had over 60,000 people getting blind drunk on drink and drugs (some intentionally, some non-intentially). We started of in a bar on the run down to the beach where everyone had a couple of buckets and painted each other in crazy fluro paint which glows under UV light!!! Now I don't know who the genius who came up with the concept of selling paint that glows under UV to people that are partying on a beach...in the dark...with no UV lights insight came from, but man this person must be a millionaire. There was buckets of the stuff everywhere you looked. I donned a pink mexican moustache and verious messages up each arm whilst everyone else went for a kind of "war tribe" theme.
12:40 - we skipped out of the bar and headed down to the beach to bring in the new year and watch the fireworks and the "count down". We didn't see a countdown but apparently there was one. The fireworks were pretty cool but some of them turned out to be more like homemade explosives after a couple failed to take off from the sand. To which you would just see a big hole in the crowd open up and watch people scatter in all directions.
Then shortly afterwards, all the warnings about drinks getting spiked land on my doorstep after I start Hallucinating in a pretty bad way and I see a crowd of 60,000 people turned into spiders. I decided to spew my guts up as much as possible to the point I was wondering if I was starting to turn inside out. If I could get whatever,s in my stomach out, hopefully I'd be OK.
Jess decided that we should head back as soon as and get the boat back to Ko Samui so we headed back to the Pier to see about 2000 all trying to get on the same boat. We waited an hour or two before we gave up and paid a local fisherman to take us back on his longtail boat...which was probably the highlight of the night for me. I was still off my face on whatever had been put in my drink but I owe everything to Jess for getting me back safe and sound. Unlike the UK couple Mark & Emma, Mark was missing until around 3pm the next day. He too shared the dodgy drink with me and woke up on the beach (on the wrong Island) with someone trying to rob him.
New Years Day was pretty intense as the effects of what I'd been spiked with the night before made it pretty emotinal. Lots of Ups and Downs and nothing seemed very real. It was as though I was watching myself live my life through another person.
So there you go...Either the best night ever!!! Or a night to forget!!!
Time to leave and chill out for a few days!!!
Ko Tao was next on the agenda. A place that you can walk around within a single day!...and the best place in Thailand for Diving and Snorkeling!
