Look up the word paradise in the dictionary and there should be a picture of this island next to it.
We'd checked out of Freedom beach at 9am (because 9am isn't early at all) and headed back to the main port of the Island where we had to catch a local fishermans longtail boat to the Island of Ko Nangyuan which is just off Ko Tao. It's a tiny group of 3 islands which you could probably walk round in about 30mins. Each of the islands was joined by a tiny strip of sand which were passible when the tide was low. If the tide was high then there was a man made floating platform that wouldn't go amiss on Total Wipeout. Carrying a 20Kg backpack that's got all sorts of electronics and gadgets inside across this floating platform was a mission and half. At first I had the confidence of "I can do this", only to be followed about 4 steps later with "Hmm...this is tricky", and a further 4 steps later I admitted defeat and decided to drag my bag. Even that was a mission and I was almost thrown off on a few occasions. "oooooh, you've got a lovely resort but this bridge is a F**KING nightmare!!! Do I get anything for making it all the way across?". NO!!!
Eventually, we both got across to the reception where luckily there was 1 room available for the night which we duely booked up and paid for. It was the cheapest of the rooms they had on each of the 3 islands but once we got to the room and saw the view, we thought there must've been a mistake...That or we're just damn lucky to have gotten the room we did. It was basic but the view more than made up for it.
We dropped off our things and headed off down to the beach...well, we say beach, but it was more like a strip of sand which housed quite a large number of people most of whom were there on a day trip and Jess made a valid point that when all these "tourists" leave, the beach will be empty and it will just be whoever's staying on the island that's left. The thought was quite an image and I couldn't wait until dusk to get some pictures of the scenery.
We spent a few hours snorkling (with a snorkle mask that filled up with water everytime you stuck your head under water). The same problem never happened to Jess so I'm resigned to the fact that I've just got a messed up face. Whenever my mask didn't have water in it, we saw all kinds of weird and wonderful things...but we never found a Nemo. We did find where he lived, but he'd obviously moved out or something. We soon realised that we were quite some way out and not wanting to scare Jess with the fact that sharks frequent the waters (I still don't think she does know), I suggested we head back to shore. Shortly after we left the water, the rain set in and cleared the people off the beach like a rancid fart in a lift shaft. I've never seen people move so quickly.
We sat out the rain from the luxury of our balcony where Jess' finger problem came up again. The whole, "how did you manage to burn your fingers humour" had quickly dissapeared when we realised just how bad they actually were. So there we were, on a remote Island which couldn't have been further away from a doctor or clinic if we'd asked to be. Only one thing for it...Dr Lunn!!! "I've got burn Gel!!!" so we used it and apparently it helped and Jess wished we'd got bottles of the stuff...we didn't!!! Just one more packet that contained about 30ml. We'll save that one until tomorrow. The only thing that helped with the pain was if Jess sat under the AC with burn gel on her fingers. "What about food? I need food". I thought about going across to the other island to get a pizza to share but then we decided we'd go together, get a quick bite and then head back to the room.
We rented a few movies from the reception and got Jess setled under the AC to help with the pain. I felt helpless and all I could do was just sit there and keep asking "how you feeling". Which no doubt, only added to the frustration she was going through. Poor girl.
Next day, we were heading to the wonderful s***hole of Bangkok and check out was at 7am. Lovely lovely!!!
