So that's it then...I'm finally on my merry little way around the globe. After months of planning, a few weeks of panic and a few hours of absolute pandemonium getting my last bits together, I've arrived in Bangkok (What's the capitol of Thailand? ----- The Letter "T") haha!!!
After stepping off the plane, collecting my bags, passing through immigration and stepping into a taxi on the way to the city you'd think my first impressions would be a something a bit more spectacular than "f**k me, they drive on the same side of the road as us, sweet!!!, Less chance of getting run over" (However, this was followed around 30mins later by the thought "actually, no you don't!!! You're all f**king mental and drive wherever the hell you want"). I have a feeling I may have been ripped off with my taxi at 500 Baht (about 10 quid - sorry I can't find the 'pound' sign), but i did skip a queue about a mile long and it took 60mins to get to the hostel so who knows. I guess these first few days is all about talking to the locals to make sure my baht last these next few months.
It's dark here at the minute so I haven't got a clue what the place looks like, I could be in Tipton for all I know (for those that don't know Tipton, just imagine that council estate on the edge of town where all the pregnant teenagers live. The one with more rough pubs than there are cars...and what cars are around are on bricks).
I did see a couple of kids playing footy on gravel which doesn't sound too bad until you understand that they were barefoot and the gravel wasn't really gravel...it was more like broken house bricks. That's why England won't win the world cup next year...we didn't train on house bricks. We trained on green grass. You'd think that would help the cause but if you think about it, would John Terry be a footballer if he could only have played on broken house bricks as a kid? Probably not...and that's the problem, England don't have the passion that these two little kids have. these kids want to play football whatever the territory. John Terry and co are too used to the creature comforts these days. Anyway, enough of the world cup I'm on holiday to chill the f**k out.
Another funny sight is the Pink taxis...when I say pink...I mean PINK (Pantone 806C if anybody is interested). It's as though the guys that own these taxi's have got a little racket going on between themselves and who can pimp up their car the best. My personally favourite was the Skode Favorit with a drag racer spoiler. It's nuts!!! i'll get some photos when I'm out and about tomorrow but these taxi's are brilliant...plus I think they might be tourist taxis. So as your driving about town you may aswell stick a guy on the roof shouting "TOURIST TOURIST, GET YOUR BAHT HERE"!!! I guess I'll find out tomorrow.
Anyway, my hostel is brilliant. Loads of folks to hang around with and get royally drunk with so see you later, I'm getting the beers in.
Speak to you all soon
