Today our destination is Windhoek, Namibia's capital city. Total distance is some 550km which translated into travel time in the truck means 8-9 hours on the road! Early start it is then!
First of all we had a short drive to the edge of Etosha and just 5 minutes outside the campsite we had a surprise! Two lions, a male and a female were right there on the side of the road. It was clear from their behaviour they were a mating pair and Siziba explained that they will have left the rest of the pack and will stay away for 3 days. During that time they will mate every 15 minutes without sleep or food!
There was another Nomad truck doing the same route as us, the accommodated group, but they had been unlucky the previous day and not seen any lions. Siziba started cutting the lions up as they tried to cross the road and slowing them down knowing the other truck was just 5 minutes behind us. He called them and told the other guide to hurry up but it soon became clear that we couldn't hold the lions in the area for long and they disappeared into the bushes before the other truck arrived! It appears we really are lucky!
So in the end the only other animal we had hoped to see in Etosha but had missed is the elephant! We were disappointed but Siziba promised us that we would see elephant soon, a big promise to make where animals are concerned!
The rest of the next few hours went past surprisingly quickly, Siziba drove really very fast, it's a good job he's a very good driver, with excellent vision and quick reflexes! We arrived in Windhoek in what must have been record time and to be honest it really wasn't that bad a drive!
Today Anke will be leaving us and is staying in a different hotel, however, we will be having another group meal and she will join us later in the evening at a local restaurant frequently used by Nomad!
