Surfers paradise
Off to surfers paradise to meet jack and Lena, they offered to accommodate us for six nights! Lena is my nana's cousin so im not sure what relation she is to me, lets just say a distant relative but it was great of them to put us up.
They met us at the bus terminal and gave us a lift back to their house. Their house is amazing, its all electronically gated and it sits right on the water's edge. Our room had a balcony, air-con, en-suite, double bed, Tv and they have a swimming pool. It was luxury! We spent that night just chatting and it turns out jack and Lena have travelled more than we have, they done this similar trip to what we did but in the 70's, it was great to hear their story about how they came over to Australia and about their life they are really interesting people. Jack was an excellent musician in a band and Lena keeps surprising us with her ceramics, and paintings. There are lovely ornaments and paintings all over the house and we couldn't believe it when Lena was saying oh "I made that" they were brilliant. They both tell a great story it makes me laugh now just thinking about it. haha
The first morning was a Sunday and we had the best nights sleep the bed was so soft it was like a water bed and we woke up to breakfast, toast, cereal, tea and chocolate biscuits! Sunday we just chilled out together and we did a bit of gardening, jack gave me this paraffin fire torch to burn all the weeds I was in my element and to top it off we stopped to have happy hour. Where jack cracks open a beer and we all have a beer and sit on the porch overlooking the canal. Louise is starting to like the beer I think it was franks San Miguel in Singapore which made her turn the corner. Haha
While we were in Surfers paradise, all we wanted to do was the theme parks, so we booked Warner brothers movie world, wet and wild and sea world. First park we did was Warner brothers movie world and we did the super man ride (0-100kph) in under 2 seconds........super fast! That night we came in and jack and Lena had garlic prawns and rice waiting for us, we were getting spoilt. Big time!
Wet and wild the next morning but it is still the kids school holidays so all the parks are ram packed with kids. Still the rides were brill and we had a great time. Next day we decided to give the parks a rest and spend the day with jack and Lena and it turns out it was one of our best days we had. We spent the morning relaxing in the garden and watching the little water lizard bathe in the fountain. Then Jack took us for a drive out to see some MASSIVE houses on this secluded island. They were unbelievable each one had a multi-million dollar yacht outside, some of them looked like hotels. Then we went to the fish shop and Lena and jack treat us to some fish and chips while we watched the pelicans fly down for their daily feed. Turns out Lena is quite the fishing enthusiast so on the way back we grabbed some live worms from the bait shop and we headed back to the house to do a bit of fishing. It was great, Lena put all the worms on the hookfor us because we didn't know how to do it not that we were scared. We walked to the canal which took us all of 3 seconds and cast our rods in and left them in the holders as we watched from the porch with our beers haha hawk eye louise was the hero this time as she spotted the rod moving out the corner of her eye so we ran down and reeled it in, our first fish what a great feeling. It was just about 20 cm but still we were chuffed. If you are reading this derrick, and you need a fishing apprentice.........I think I'm your man haha with Alan's worms, my enthusiasm and your know how i think we could be on to a winner!
Next day we went to sea world, but on the bus there were these annoying kids sat behind us and their parents were down the front. The kids were running up and down the bus like a bloody yoyo and the older boy was winding the younger one up saying , 'youve poo'd your pants, youve poo'd your pants.'The younger one started crying, screeching in my ear it got to the point where i was fuming and the parents weren't doing anything so i was left no choice, I turned around and gave them a stern telling off! Just incase he went and got his dad onto me, we hurried off the bus, I think I could of taken him anyway but i just didn't want the hassle haha Anyway turns out SeaWorld was excellent! The sharks were ginormous and the world champion jet ski jumper was performing.
That night was our last night so we all went out to jack and Lena's life saving surf club right on the beach and we had a Sunday roast which was a great way to end our time at surfers paradise. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute! While we were there we constantly kept an eye on the Brisbane floods because that's where we were heading next but from talking to Jack and Lena we decided to miss out Brisbane and do Mooloolaba instead.
Thanks Jack and Lena
Love Adam and Louise xx
