We left Airlie beach on a high after our sailing trip and headed for Townsville. We were greeted in Townsville by a mass of aborigines which we hadn't seen before there was a load. They were abusive not to us but to each other and the language they used was very inappropriate. Their potty mouth would of been washed out with soap if my nana's would of caught them! Here is an interesting fact because I'm full of them...............until 1967 aboriginal people weren't classed as human beings but came under the category of 'plants and animals' how bizarre is that!! They had to pass a bill through court to gain human rights!
I must admit Townsville wasn't on my list for must see destinations, I think it's just the name it doesn't really excite me like Mooloolaba, Noosa or Byron bay. It sounds boring and town like. However.......... boy were we wrong!!!! We stayed in this little hostel called reef lodge and its was dead! Again the cyclone had scared everyone away which meant we had our own hostel practically which was ace! We took the opportunity to cook some homemade burgers. We bought mince meat, added onions, mixed in the garlic, and finely chopped the chilli, and mixed it all together added breadcrumbs and...................DONE!! Waaa-laaaa! While i was doing this Louise took the opportunity to clean my bag out because it was a mess. The burgers were brilliant if I don't mind saying so myself! This hostel was really chilled out it had hammocks everywhere and big screen TV's......ideal!
The following day we decided to explore the delights of Townsville and it was a scorching hot day. It was incredible we took a walk past the big marina and down onto 'the strand' which was basically a big long board walk which stretched the whole length of the beach. You wouldn't associate a beach with 'TOWNsville' it just doesn't go but im forgetting were travelling the east coast so pretty much everyplace we go has a beach! Derrrrrr!! It was just lined with palm trees, and free BBQ's and FREE water parks and climbing frames and fitness machines all the way along the board walk for joggers etc Its different from back home you don't get the scum bags hanging around drinking cider which is nice! To top it off when we got to the end of the walk and we were sweating profusely there was a massive man made rock pool right by the sea......................THANK YOU!!! To make things even better it was empty the place was like a ghost town which was kind of nice. You're not allowed to swim in the sea after the town of 1770 because of the deadly jellyfish so in towns like this you often find man made swimming pools for free!
We stayed in Townsville 2 nights and decided to head to magnetic island next, this was done by ferry from Townsville. Surprisingly nice place would have liked to have stayed longer.
Love from Adam and Louise xxx

Steph & Alan The beach looks beatiful there so it was definately worth going and the weather looks nice n hot. Makes up for the times you have not had it so good. You have certainly had a fair old mixture, floods ,cyclones, heat waves, earth quakes in the distance.....and you're still carrying on campers!! Gold star for you both Lots of Love Mam Dad Katie n Tyke xxxxxxx
mam and dad (m) Well i dont believe it ! - you cooking beefburgers while Louise cleans your bag out. youve never made a burger in your life- where did you pick that skill up? Are you sure it wasn't louise who did the cooking while you cleaned her bag? Better not tell nana about those nasty aboriginy people as your right she would wash there mouths out with soap - no wonder us monkhouses try not to swear. Of course the scum bags are everywhere, even in australia but I guess you are just lucky enough to be in some of the nicer places of the world. Mind you there are none about anymore in Newcastle or Middlesbrough so dont be put off to come home. And did I tell you Tynemouth beach used to have a wonderful man made swimming pool where we all used to swim when we were young but it was recently filled in 'cos the beer swigging cider drinking louts used to throw there broken bottles in - damn them! oops here comes the soap! ha ha. Love to you both - hope it stops raining soon, take care, lots of love mam/dad/paul and dawn xx
